The first half of my grad students took their oral exams today. Their responses were thoughtful and even though they were nervous, it was clear they leaned in to the readings this semester. Contemporary Theory is an interesting course to teach.

"In this fascinating conversation on knowledge and value, gender and care, Babalwa celebrates her grandmother – “a learning space, a space of imagination” – who provided her with “ways of knowing” that remain sidelined in academia."
How have maternal ways of knowing been sidelined and devalued? What’s the harm in sociology’s fixation on its “founding fathers”? And why must we de-gender motherhood and see how all of us must care? Babalwa Magoqwana joins us from South Africa.

"The notion of promiscuity helps to emphasise creativity’s collaborative relationality and move beyond its anthropocentric underpinnings." 📍
Highly recommend making time to read "A plea for promiscuous creativity".

It has great ideas to think with, it cites Glissant (among others), and it's FREE to read #OpenAccess #Blackademics #ArtSky #Lit

Last night I finished, She Who Knows and picked up Walter Mosley's Touched.

Blue Light is my all time favorite book by Mosley, but Touched came pretty close!

Thanks Trump! The severely mentally ill have to endure the rest of the culture calling you psychotic & a psycho & every other slur in the book because they hate you, wounding us deeply because they're ableist & hate the mad.
The lawless criminal, psychotic madman, and lifelong sexual predator is psycho-ranting after he was forced to sign the bill to release the Epstein files.
