Almost 4 years into Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia still controls 0/23 regional capital and special-status cities that Ukraine controlled at the start of the full-scale war.

0/23!

Your regular reminder that anyone calling Ukraine a proxy is ignorant or disingenuous. Ukraine has held back Ru military aggression for 11+ yrs completely alone; secured moderate Western aid since 2022 through tireless advocacy; and has now defied US diplomatic pressure to surrender for over 10mo.

Europe shouldn't abandon manufaturing - especially while the continent rearms.

But more single market integration, especially in services, can offset trade shocks and boost incomes.

Great title on this FT piece, with an observation from my side.

Great thread, and something that needs to be said louder and more frequently.

We are so dependent on charities to run essential care, from medical to housing, we are so dependent on volunteers to fundraise and run basic services, all of which our government should be providing.
We never talk about, when there is such a feel-good factor around such fundraising drives, and we marvel at the amounts raised, how the State should be fully funding many of these organisations to do this work. OR PROVIDING THESE SERVICES ITSELF. Because we have a right to public services.

On this the Taoiseach is absolutely right. Herzog Park should not be renamed. The proposal is populist politics & not grounded in any historical or other basis.
The proposal to rename Herzog Park should be withdrawn in its entirety and not proceeded with.

If true, this is a sad reflection on the "scholars" in question. If the choice is between a warrior with a conscience and a civilian without one, I'll take the former every time.
Law prof Josh Braver notes the problem of 'manifestly unlawful' when the civilian legal authorities *say* it's lawful -- and thinks least bad outcome is the military maintains civilian supremacy even if acting illegally. Many (most?) civ-mil relatios scholars agree.

This is the optimistic scenario -- America recovers, albeit slowly. Me, I think it more likely that America as we knew it is gone, never to return.
It will take America *decades*—not merely years—to recover from what these robber barons did to us.

They destroyed our government, caused untold pain to the average American directly and indirectly, and used our money as their piggy bank.

And all of it *should* have been criminal.

Lincoln was re-elected on a party platform saying "That foreign immigration, which in the past has added so much to the wealth, development of resources and increase of power to this nation, the asylum of the oppressed of all nations, should be fostered and encouraged by a liberal and just policy."
They're not hiding it, folks—straight up neo-Nazi advertising, from the font to the language to the 11 stars for the Confederacy. Then you have the DHS openly using white nationalist language of "remigrate", which means ethnic cleansing.

Thing is, GHW Bush was a one-term President. The fact is that American voters don't care much for legal principles. Trump could never have happened if they did.
🇺🇸, a mere 35 years ago, under a GOP president, led a UN-backed coalition to uphold the principle of territorial sovereignty, the bedrock of the post-WWII int'l system. Like threatening to take territory from our allies (🇨🇦 & 🇩🇰/🇬🇱), working to allow 🇷🇺 to violate this should have ended this presidency.
Exclusive: Surrendering land to Russia to end the war is off-limits, Zelensky’s chief negotiator tells Simon Shuster. “As long as Zelensky is president, no one should count on us giving up territory.”
