#PortfolioDay

Good day, folks! You're talking to an aspiring Tri-State born artist living in the L.A. suburbs named Harry Aguiluz, who's influenced by the likes of newspaper comic artists and stylized cartoons typically from the 1950's to this very decade.

Thanks for dropping by today!

Oh… so that’s what Elmo would sound like during puberty.

Every so often I come across a clip from the period where Richard Hunt played Elmo and I feel like I've stepped into an alternate dimension.

60 years ago, this particular Peanuts comic strip was published to numerous syndicated newspapers, and the one I was assigned to redraw for the @peanutscollab.bsky.social collab as my entry.

I just realized I forgot to add an alt text to the left image. My bad. For those curious, this is Craig, the bold and benevolent civet.

The first Peanuts strip by Charles M. Schulz was published on October 2, 1950.
Four black and white panels of a boy and girl sitting on steps. 1st panel: Charlie Brown is approaching and the boy says “Well! Here comes ol’ Charlie Brown!” 2nd panel: As Charlie Brown passes, he says “Good ol’ Charlie Brown…yes, sir!” 3rd panel: “Good ol’ Charlie Brown…” 4th panel: Once Charlie is gone, “How I hate him!”

Today marks 75 years of Charles Schulz's Peanuts comic strip. As an avid follower and fan of the comic strip, perhaps one of the biggest honors in my career so far has to have been a storyboard artist on Snoopy In Space and Camp Snoopy - a small blip in the Peanuts legacy, but a major honor for me.
Snoopy in a dark cave with Woodstock - they have space suits and helments on. Charlie Brown is grimacing because Lucy's holding up a toy planet that just so happens to be the same shape as his head. The Peanuts crew in a corner of a NASA facility, with Franklin working out a formula on a big huge blackboard.

Hermína Týrlová was a stop-motion legend -- and she used wool to create pure magic.

Her wool animation was part of her career rebound in her 60s. We're exploring these wonderful films and what makes them so special:

Animation test for Genndy Tartakovsky's 'The Black Knight' ⚔️

• Follows a knight who controls a 20ft suit of armor in the 14th century

• Tartakovsky released the footage to convince Sony to make the film — the studio is unsure if there’s an audience for it

I really love the fact that Ed Benedict was very technical with Fred Flintstone's design. A lot went into designing this simple cartoon caveman.

From what I had learned, the logo was actually based on touchstones. Hence the name "Touchstone Films".

It’s honestly impressive how you managed to make it THIS authentically 2D cel animated with using 3D software.
