What's Happening

Collective Shout, an Australian hate group masquerading as a feminist activism non-profit, is pressuring financial companies such as Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, and Stripe to censor media by telling them to deny payments to sellers of sexual content, which applies to both real life pornography and fictional content. Wonder why the internet sucks these days? It’s because of laws like FOSTA-SESTA and the bad faith arguments by puritan Christofascists that seek to limit what small/indie creators can express in their art.

Sex work is work. Video games can be art. They don’t care if a sex worker provides for their family or if a developer’s autobiographical game about their struggles with eating disorders and dysmorphia wins industry awards, that’s all “evil porn” to them and they want to silence our voices. Their censorship has forced platforms like Patreon, OnlyFans, Fansly, and more to restrict what creators can create and monetize for a living. Most recently, they have forced Steam to remove games and itch.io to de-index thousands of projects and withhold payments to creators, many of whom are queer and/or trans.

“Violent video games cause violence in real life” is a myth, and the same applies to sexually explicit games with extreme kinks. Don’t fall for their fascist talking points!

What You Can Do
Scan A QR Code For Contact Info & Message Scripts

Prioritize making phone calls, especially to Stripe and Paypal, and take up as much time as you can by being polite but annoying to the call center workers. Folks have reported doing calls over 25 minutes long by pretending to be clueless about the situation. The longer you make their average support call duration, the more the boards of these companies will have to take notice! If they tell you to leave an email, tell them you want to file your complaint on the phone anyways.

Secondly, signing the petitions on ACLU and Change.org helps as well. The more signatures we can get on them the better, and it only takes a few minutes!

If you prefer to write a letter, then try to send a physical piece of mail. Our goal is to get these companies to understand that they don’t get to decide how we spend our money.

More You Can Do

The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) is rearing its ugly head again while the UK is battling their own Online Safety Act (OSA) that has already gone into effect. These bills are NOT about protecting minors: it’s about control and censorship of information. Multiple people in the UK have found that they can no longer access Reddit communities that are pro-LGBTQ or pro-Palestine, which can endanger folks looking for help and advice. Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn has also said a key goal of KOSA is to “protect minor children from the transgender in this culture and that influence.”

US citizens can still fight KOSA 2.0. Sign the petition from Fight For The Future and find out who your representatives are to tell them to reject KOSA.

Don’t stay silent. Share this zine with a friend. Support sex workers & queer creators before it’s too late.

ANTI-CENSORSHIP CHEAT SHEET

WHY?
Visa, Mastercard, Stripe & Paypal have been censoring free speech & legal business online for TOO LONG. Most recent targets are Steam & Itch.io, but they have also pressured websites like Pixiv, Patreon, Fansly, Onlyfans & MORE for years, applying draconian standards for what kind of adult/pornographic content their users can host & sell.
If we as consumers & creators want to regain ground on this issue, we have to make our voice heard.

HOW?
BOMBARD WITH PHONE CALLS
Collective Shout, the org that lobbied to have Steam & Itch.io change their TOS, did so with only around 1000 phone calls. Visa & MC have backed down from pressuring Onlyfans to remove adult content entirely due to public backlash. Clogging phone lines for an extended period, over a month at least, will almost guarantee that these companies will have to pay attention to the backlash.
