This is *always* how it works with metals tariffs. We saw this with the Bush steel tariffs and the Trump I tariffs. You get a few jobs in steel and you lose a lot of jobs in every industry that *uses* steel. It kills manufacturing. There’s been a lot of work on this. #econsky
Manufacturing has been contracting for most of the past year. If you drill down you'll see metal manufacturing is doing ok, because Trump pummeled their competition with tariffs. Meanwhile the downstream US firms (machinery, electronics, autos) that have to *buy* more expensive metal are screwed.

#FossilFriday I found this fragment of bone in a gully in the sagebrush southwest of Boise. It has some gnaw marks on the periosteum and the marrow cavity is easily seen. I think it is probably from the last ice age when it was a lot wetter here with a large ancient lake.

The #PedsICU community did a fantastic job raising concerns early about MIS-C early during the COVID epidemic. Trust me, it would have done the same if suddenly we had seen a lot of vaccine related complications, and wouldn’t have hesitated to advocate for intervention.

We need to have far more tight controls on what the President can do with the military. The vast majority (70% on CBS poll) of Americans oppose attacking Venezuela, but the President can order it with complete immunity according to the Supreme Court. It’s just wrong.
Really looks like the United States is about to launch a regime change war against Venezuela with:
-No casus belli
-No authorization from Congress
-No allies or international support
-No plan for a post-Maduro Venezuela
-No preparation for any sort of stabilization or containment of the fallout
