As a teacher, you're responsible for the care and education of ALL your students, which means constantly reevaluating your methods to keep learning fun for everyone.

DO activities that address the diversity and various needs of your students in the classroom. DON’T do activities that will make students uncomfortable or single them out.

DO include students when setting guidelines for an inclusive classroom environment. DON’T insert your personal beliefs into a lesson or conversation. This can be a challenge.

DO survey students to gain information that will be useful in creating a student-centered environment. DON’T invalidate a student’s feelings or emotions. Hear them out and seek guidance if you need assistance.

DO seek assistance from district DEAI resources and personnel if you have questions or concerns. DON’T be afraid to ask for help.

I won't say this is devastating as there is far worse going on for so many people. It’s disappointing. I have an application in to serve as a Fulbright Scholar in 2027. Nearly all of the board members resigned following recent decisions and I'm not feeling optimistic about it now. #EduSky

We did a study on #belonging & #collaboration in #online graduate students recently. Participants shared their perspectives on connections in programs and if they felt pride or allegiance to their university—even if they never see anyone in person. Answers varied! Any thoughts on this?

Labels in education often focus on children's weaknesses, historically dividing diverse learners from the "norm" & limiting how educators see them.

Here are some tips to avoid deficit language when talking about your students, from @drfurlong.bsky.social & Keri Orange-Jones: www.corwin.com/books...

"Clustering: grouping students based on similar learning needs" is harmful because it reinforces stereotypes and can highlight inequities. Consider "flexible grouping" instead, which focuses on addressing various learning needs.

"Tracking" is harmful because it focuses on students with deficits and limits. Consider "student goal-setting" instead, which focuses on the positive aspects of student achievement.
