So these two mega-billionaires—who supported Trump as he opposed meaningful loan forgiveness for tens of millions of young people because Trump has increased their net worth immeasurably—are donating an infinitesimal portion of their wealth to help a few kids turn $250 into $700 over 18 years?

WOW.

Currently binge-watching my latest set of glaze chemistry lectures and a) it's utterly fascinating and I understand so much more now, and b) it's keeping me off the bloody doomscroll, which is nice. Learning stuff is fun.

Firing the kiln. Cone 6 glaze firing to finish up ~50 test tiles for my glaze chem course. Got a little ahead of the game so finished up Labs 3 and 4 so I could fire them at the same time, and prepped 21 additional tiles to test 7 whole other glazes I'm playing with on all 3 of my clay bodies.

Canada made weird tv shows because it was all being done with government funded art grant money so they fell in this wacky middle ground between “shoestring budget” and “no expectation to generate shareholder value” which is really the best way to make art

Working my way through the glaze chemistry course I'm taking. Batched up Lab 3 glaze experiments today. Very fiddly measurements (I have a scale that does hundredths of grams, so could actually be pretty precise). I'll do a final mix and sieve them out tomorrow. Will fire these probably Thursday.

Taking PTO tomorrow and Friday to participate in a local wood kiln firing. It's gonna be cold, but totally worth it for the opportunity to talk pots with other potters while chucking wood into a kiln.

According to reports, ICE officers are being told to trust the results of a faulty facial recognition app over evidence of citizenship.

The Trump administration is steamrolling our due process and privacy rights to support its mass deportation agenda.
You Can't Refuse To Be Scanned by ICE's Facial Recognition App, DHS Document Says
Photos captured by Mobile Fortify will be stored for 15 years, regardless of immigration or citizenship status, the document says.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.

Hey photography pals -- Flickr is overpriced garbage at this point, so I'm looking for a new place to host photos that isn't just a file listing system like Google Drive. What are the best options (ideally free, but < $10/mo would do)?

First time trying to use Flickr in a few years and it is completely broken and utterly useless to me. And this just after my pro subscription renewed. Yay.

A reminder that the original Hallowe'en jack o' lanterns date back to 18th century Ireland if not earlier, were based on a shady boozy blacksmith called Stingy Jack who cheated the devil & was trapped between 2 worlds, were carved from turnips and looked like this:

Took an extended long weekend (Wed thru Tues), and we were away until today, so making Thanksgiving dinner tonight. Slow roasted pork shoulder, potatoes au gratin, roast brussels sprouts and carrots. Normally would do a turkey, but this was a last minute change of plans, so making do 😜

In 1989, writer Rick Veitch and artist Michael Zulli were the creators on #SwampThing. #DC balked after their planned Swamp Thing #88 featured a storyline wherein the titular character travels back in time, meets #JesusChrist, and morphs into the cross on Calvary Hill.
