Corporate bosses won’t police corporate greed—that’s why I’m championing the Warehouse Worker Protection Act with @teamsters.bsky.social and labor unions nationwide.
Injuries should not be the cost of doing business in America. We must guarantee worker safety and dignity.

“untreated depression & anxiety during pregnancy are far more dangerous—to both parent &baby—than carefully managed anti-d treatment….

Untreated maternal MH issues can ripple thru a child’s development, influence parenting capacity &…leave biological ‘footprints’…that may persist for generations”🛟🧪

“We no longer whisper about having ‘postpartum’—it’s a true category of depression….
We know that pregnancy doesn’t protect people from mental illness or mental health issues.
We know that having a baby can be both wonderful and incredibly difficult.” 🛟🧪

By casting doubt on antidepressants and other well-studied drugs, our government health agencies are choosing minimal risk to a fetus over the major risk to the person carrying it

States left in the dark on food aid despite Trump's promise of tariff funds
The shutdown is already interrupting benefits for low-income moms and babies — and agencies don't know when the next check is coming.

President Donald Trump's threatened crackdown on the finances and activities of liberal non-profits and groups opposed to his agenda is a multi-agency effort with top White House aide Stephen Miller playing a central role, according to officials.

And I don't mean, 'Hey Bret, start a podcast and a video studio.' I've already got my project, but where is everyone else at?

(Of course part of the answer is that we won't get good public classics until we change tenure rules to reward it. Until then, the field will continue to pass away.)

Anyway, the whole thing really brings home how badly we are just ceding this large space of interest and public attention to enthusiastic but often unskilled and untrained (and sometimes ideologically dodgy) amateurs, when it ought to be trained classicists in that space, swinging dolabrae.

So YouTube served me up a short of a fellow talking about the Roman dolabra, the multi-purpose entrenching tool of the legions, and swinging around a modern replica.

He then explained the weapon might have been used against the 'Gaels' at 'Alesium,' so I guess no classics background, huh?

Fishing some 5,300 years ago: a Neolithic fishhook made of wild boar tusk, wrapped with a fishing line.
The size of the fishhook is 6.5 cm. It was used to catch pikes.
Found in the lake-dwelling settlement of Arbon Bleiche 3, Switzerland.

the question is really why Trump wants so badly to be seen as a peacemaker, not whether he is one (obviously not)

there was a ceasefire when trump came in. he let israel blow that up, let famine spread, let his goons murder starving people, before using the power he'd had since he took office. grotesque to call this peacemaking. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/08/us/politics/trump-mideast-visit-israel-gaza.html
