Hoo boy

Whole buncha folks about to have to face a choice between complying with a Congressional subpoena and getting fired because pete's mad at them

Also if anything is a "start the clock" moment on pete's tenure coming to an end, it's this
There are now bipartisan investigations in both the House and Senate into the administration targeting and killing people in the Caribbean without due process.

Any mayor could halt ICE/CBP operations in their city if they ordered their police to stand down (and crucially, the police obeyed.) The other side of that coin is that federal police would likely shoot into a crowd if they were overwhelmed.

I'm really interested in seeing how Mamdani governs the NYPD's coordination with federal police. Without local law enforcement providing security, ICE and CBP can't operate.
Federal immigration enforcement officials called off a planned raid on Canal Street today shortly before it was slated to begin.

New Yorkers who heard about the raid showed up at the garage where the feds had gathered, and as federal agents tried to leave, the NYPD cleared the way for them.

we've seen plenty of violence, including gunfire, from this set during Trump II. where it has been conspicuously and I'd argue crucially absent has been whenever they are confronted with large crowds. compared to 2020 municipal cops, they're downright docile
not to belabor the point but any idea that the DHS goons make up a force as casually violent and numerous as the SA/Brownshirts really does have to contend with the fact that they are routinely stymied by a bunch of unarmed community members, even operating in force

These are not people who make this kind of statement lightly.

"The Former JAGs Working Group unanimously considers both the giving and the execution of these orders, if true, to constitute war crimes, murder, or both."

NYC’s density really working against ICE today, much easier for a ton of people to swarm and shut them down once they realized what was going on

great fucking work everyone
Confirmed: Earlier this morning a photog overheard agents inside the parking garage say “dismissed,” believed to be calling off their planned mass raid.

A source tells me they had planned for *hundreds* of agents to flood Canal St. They got flooded instead.

There are specific reasons Trumpists want war on Venezuela, but there‘s a generic one: they crave power to make war on anyone, any time, for completely fabricated reasons, and then to use the guise of war to increase violence and repression everywhere, including home.

They are lawless bestial scum.

a few candidates have talked about this but any Dem planning to run in 2028 should make it explicit: the next DOJ will, in fact, go after you if you’re funding this awful ballroom, or any other pay to play deals you make with this administration
Dimon on why JPMorgan Chase is not funding WH Ballroom:
We have an issue, which is anything we do, since we do a lot of contracts with governments here and around the world, we have to be very careful how anything is perceived, and also how the next DOJ is going to deal with it.

part of the reason i am genuinely irritated with the gAI/AGI cult is because there is real societal benefits in using ML techniques in medical care + weather analysis, and instead people get annoyed with anything that gets lumped in with the plagiarism machine

Thing is, we DID hear about it at his confirmation hearing.

Every single senator who voted to confirm Hegseth knew he held these views about the laws of war.

They voted to confirm him anyway.
Everyone should read this terrifying thread about Hegseth’s published views wrt war crimes. It’s pretty fucking radical …. We needed to hear about this in his confirmation hearing.
A chapter in Hegseth’s book is literally titled “More Lethality, Less Lawyers.”

It’s almost as if there were signs!

I'm not trying to bust his balls too hard here cause I'm a fan of his recent work, but if *Kristol* will call someone a war criminal, they are REALLY a war criminal

(For younguns playing at home, Kristol defended use of torture in GWOT and even IIRC argued G-Dub should pardon the torturers)
It’s wrong to lump all top Trump people in one category. There are differences among them. But they do seem to fall into three (sometimes overlapping) categories:

• Ordinary criminals (grift and corruption).

• Sex criminals.

• War criminals.

i want to underline how significant i think it is that people are starting to leak already. that’s a sign, imo, that people are shifting into ass-covering mode, hoping that if they’re among the first to blow the whistle, however belatedly, they’ll get more lenient treatment.
people are starting to leak. republicans who are either planning to retire or don’t have to face voters again until after trump’s term is over are starting to talk about trump in public the way they’ve spent the last decade talking about him in private. 2006 vibes increasing.

The president is about to start a war for no real reason. All of the things he has blamed on the country he’s targeting — fentanyl distribution, “emptying the asylums” and sending patients to the U.S., alignment with Tren de Aragua— are provably, obviously false.

Lots of people are going to die.

Right. This is normally a prelude to imminent war. But no one knows if the us president is serious or had a bad breakfast or is making an insane joke or had a stroke or whatever.
This seems like the kind of declaration by a U.S. president that should be mentioned *somewhere* on the front page of CNN or the NY Times, but the fact that it isn't (as of right now) tells us so much both about how this president is covered and the credibility of the U.S. government.
Might be kicking off.
