What do China's new climate pledges show us about the future? The putative electrostate elected to punt -- it isn't ready to commit to a non-coal future. Xi's government is unambitious, and seems to be falling into the very middle income trap that it says it fears.

China Is Deciding Not to Decide on a New Green Future
The country’s underwhelming new climate pledge is more than just bad news for the world — it reveals a serious governing mistake.

My friend went to HLS as his second career and told me there is an epidemic divide between Obama era liberal profs and the liberal students who all think law is actually bs and it all comes down to political power. The kids are alright.

it's funny how con law guys will log on like once a month and go "if things don't turn around, the American public might begin to see SCOTUS as illegitimate" and then get buried in the quotes by middle aged libs who want Roberts drawn and quartered

It would be a mistake to paint the administration as a genius supervillains simply because they are executing on plans to do bad things. They are imbeciles carrying out orders from a reactionary old man whose brain is goo

They really flew out the secretary of DHS out to Portland so they could show her how they’re all set up to sniper a guy in a chicken costume

Some of it is weird stuff like PIMCO held leases.
buddyyakov.bsky.social
Yeah that’s right imo. I also think that the ai data center stuff is pretty well wrapped up in its own buckets and leases.

And can your new growth service your old commitments?
buddyyakov.bsky.social
Yeah but who has the pricing power ‘ then?
buddyyakov.bsky.social
Yeah but if the big guys cut back spend that’s a problem. The debt assumes certain projected cash flow.

More like 2000 then 2008 because there won’t be a direct path to every HH but we never really dug out of 2000 either.
buddyyakov.bsky.social
That’s mostly right but there is quite a bit of debt and finance leasing out there supporting the capex. Should be ok if there’s enough core profits to service but these things can get out of hand.

Like, what are we doing here? What do you think you are doing? How do you think you are getting there? How do your actions reflect on our besieged profession? Did you stop and think about what you were posting? Does provocation matter more than effective interpretation?

Joe, I hate to say it but stuff like this has also occasionally really led me to question the utility of our academic enterprise. If somehow someone can make it to an TT job teaching at an R1 but still not parse the difference between "fascist dictatorship" and "contested citizenship republic"...

Silwa is maybe the one example of Republican who can be converted to socialism purely due to anti elitism.

“Somehow life went on … I don’t fear socialists. I don’t fear communists. I say, leave it to the people.”
