Hey let’s destroy Democracy and Capitalism. I thought these were the bedrock of the USA. Compassion and human rights were long since gone but I figured those were safe. I mean I thought we all agreed on those.

Per Trump:
The US government is now in the oil business
He's banning corporate buying of private homes
He's banning dividends & stock buybacks from defense contractors
...remember when we were warned that voting for Democrats would usher in socialism, communism & government overreach?

MAGA America First is now all of North and South America. MAGA equals colonialism and imperialism wasn’t the original message was it? Time and again the cult leader changes and the cult ignores all logic and irony and is right there with them.

DOGE savings of course. Deficits, debt and for that matter reality doesn’t come into the calculus anymore.

It’s genuinely wild that the United States spent decades building an elaborate rules-based international order which de facto cemented its permanent status as the dominant global hegemon, sustained by ideology rather than might, and now is just blowing it all up for literally no reason

I hope all those glee appointees at the illegally named Dept of War realize the battlefield has fundamentally changed since Afghanistan and Iraq. If either had drones at the scale available now, the US casualties would have been exponentially higher. Russian in Ukraine is the better lesson.

This shouldn’t surprise anyone. He also decided to raid Venezuela because Maduro was dancing on TV.

He doesn’t make decisions based on the reality on the ground - he makes decisions based on his ego. Always.
Insanity: Sources close to the White House told the Washington Post Trump lost interest in backing Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado to lead the country because she accepted her Nobel Peace Prize rather than demanding it be given to Trump, which was viewed as an “ultimate sin.”

The pro-life party is so cavalier with life. kill civilians no problem. Have children starve to death from USAID cuts who cares. Preventable malaria deaths too expensive. The list goes on and on. But kill a 5 day old fertilized egg, the doctor should go to jail.

Opinion | Trump claims the U.S. will ‘run’ Venezuela. What’s the plan?
The raid to nab Maduro was brilliantly executed. The aftermath could get extremely messy.

Beyond kidnapping an objectively bad and illegitimate state leader. Then telling the rest of the regime to behave or else and regardless we are taking your oil. Also discredited the legitimately elected opposition. So if success looks like a Libya then mission accomplished.

I cannot stress enough that Donald Trump stood on stage and said the United States is toppling a regime for their oil, oil that he stressed in 2023 is probably not worth refining because it's too shitty and dirty.
You're going to be seeing a lot of this deranged Trump clip from 2023. He says we should have toppled Venezuela and taken the oil, which is terrible, terrible oil and will pollute the hell out of us.

When it is all said and done it will have been cheaper for the government to pay to retrofit gulf terminals to process WTI vs the cost of boots on the ground to hold Venezuela oil for the current Gulf terminal configuration. America First would look at the retro fit. This is something else.

I agree with Friedman here but he down plays his overall cheerleading for regime change in Iraq. Powell used it as a warning to Bush. Much like some others today, he later regretted calling for regime change after it went south.
