Transparency led by someone like @controller.lacity.gov Mejia is the only way citizens of LA are going to be capable of understanding the cities financial crisis and have a say in how we can fix it. I’m cautiously optimistic but I don’t think we can continue banking on our courts. We need to be considering situations where the courts are compromised at lower levels, a rogue SCOTUS steps in, or courts are “closed” due to “emergency” situations. How would we protect Comey or others then?

This was a really interesting podcast I listened to Monday night with my jaw on the ground. I was tired so maybe exaggerated but hearing ret major general randy manor talk pretty bluntly for former Military was shocking.

I agree. I also think before we get to a fight, the city (and all cities and states, especially blue) NEED to start protecting critical infrastructure. Ports, rail lines, energy, water.

I feel kinda crazy saying that but before fighting I’d bet attacks on inf. by miltarized MAGA would come first.

Newsom is slimy to me but has done ok. Pritzker fits the mold and I think is doing well. LOVE AOC but our own party undermines her and mamdani. What I’ve seen of the guy from Maine (Platner?) is promising but this is all kinda too little too late for now. Good for building in the future though.

Yeah I think that’s part of my frustration and I agree - they built their propaganda game unchallenged while we focused obsessed over nuance. I don’t think that’s awful, but we also need a strong voice flooding generally accurate truths and no one has stepped up to that…

… maybe we’re way past that point but part of me hopes there are still followers of Trump that could be pulled back to some semblance of sanity even as it escalates. Unfortunately Jeffries / Schumer aren’t capable of delivering a convincing message. Maybe Pritzker or Platner from

… I’m not really sure what to do with that. We’ve certainly lost the propaganda game at least to half the country in the short term but I think more people have fallen for the terrible lies rather than have acted out of malice.

ICE is also absolutely leveraging poverty against many new recruits…

I’m a little less forgiving at the moment. It feels like they themselves didn’t believe the seriousness of what Trump said he would do and therefore are no unprepared for the moment. It’s all unprecedented, but with the project 2025 playbook it can’t be all that surprising. 🤷‍♂️ I go back and forth

I feel similarly in SOCAL w/ less confidence Newsom will do what’s “right” vs what’s politically expedient. I do admire Pritzkers clear efforts & it tells me he’s taking things seriously and (I hope) coordinating a de-escalatory responses/ his resources for an inevitable escalation by fed forces.

This is so clearly an escalation. So what do we do now? Do we wait for the guard to shoot first? An ICE agent already has. Do we wait for a Dem leader to go down? Like what’s the plan? Is Chicago working with CPD to protect citizens or is that a no-go? Haven’t we had a year to prep for this moment?
