A good point. But to he fair, it's no worse either. It's also not separate from "the real world." It's populated with real people doing real things living real lives. (one of my pet peeves) Any institution created by humans will have human flaws. (sigh)

Tenure doesn't seem to be a guarantee anymore. I can only speak for my own institution, but I've seen admin go after tenured folks. Takes a bit longer, but it can be done.

I once went to a lecture J.G.A. Pocock gave while I was in grad school. I was shocked b/c I thought he was dead (he was 80ish at the time). He passed two years ago at the age of 99!
