I finally watched this. The data and the tech are horrifying. @drtanksley.bsky.social’s research and pedagogy, however, are incredible — themselves a reminder of how GREAT great scholarship is. Just so, so good. Truly, everyone pls watch this — to learn about the bad and to be reminded of the good.
I need everyone, esp anyone working in education or tech (but really everyone) to WATCH THIS CLIP of @drtanksley.bsky.social discussing the technologies infiltrating our schools & psyches and how she is addressing it with our young people. youtu.be/5mtcSL4S3HQ

Going back to the topic of these AI-detecting technologies some people rely on so much. A friend sent me this clip of @drtanksley.bsky.social and, uh, yeah, that's bleak. I'll admit I wasn't aware of this because I stay away from these tools and the AI discourse in general, but this is terrifying.
You think LLM-based chatbots can help students learn? Think again.

Take a few minutes to listen to Dr. @drtanksley.bsky.social clear explanation why this is very bad, harmful idea, especially for Black students.

Can’t say how important this panel excerpt with @drtanksley.bsky.social is—particularly, IMO, for teachers using grading/anti-cheating programs run by AI.

“Anti-Blackness is the algorithm meant to solve the problem of Black life.”

This whole video is jaw-dropping.

As AI proliferates in higher ed, we must ask how (& if) these tools - riddled w biases, rooted in carceral violence, used for surveillance more often than for learning, & reliant upon environmental destruction - can manifest the equitable futures Big Tech promises us

All this & more on Nov 15 💪🏽
