Exciting news: DFG funds FOR5872 – Chaperone-mediated regulation of amyloids in condensates!
Led by Prof. Janine Kirstein (FLI), researchers from Germany and Israel will explore how chaperones counteract disease-causing protein misfolding.
Good luck to the team!

I'm in the field so can't attend the #NoKings protests today, but I'm so proud of our communities and country for the massive outpouring in defense of our democracy! And glad to see so many signs in defense of science #StandUpForScience

Sad to learn we lost Keith Blackwell, an unsung hero of the aging field. Keith showed rapamycin extends C. elegans lifespan, that mTORC2 has diet-dependent effects on aging, and linked together skn1 TOR splicing and aging.

Cool bits from our recently concluded killifish field research work in the Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe.
A nicely camouflaged lapwing nest (it’s a bird) and some giraffe spoors by one of our favorite seasonal ponds in the center of the park.

It’s that time of the year when our team at the @leibnizfli.bsky.social does field work in the Gonarezhou National Park. This year the rains came late and in large amounts, making it harder to find fish.
In the pics a beautiful spotted killifish and the typical butterfly-shaped mopane leaf.

It's been great fun discussing with @chrisnsimms.bsky.social about our recent preprint linking Amyloid beta to brain aging. This story was a tour de force led by super talented postdoc Dennis de Bakker at the @leibnizfli.bsky.social.

A protein linked to Alzheimer's may actually be a key player in normal brain ageing - which means targeting it could work as an anti-ageing treatment. It was great to talk to @dvalenzano.bsky.social about his exciting research on this.
