The excuse I heard when these were introduced in California was that cities could install them on State highways with minimal fuss because they are not considered full three color lights and those are run by the state. As with many things in the US, the situation might be different in other states.

I’m a fancy parker. I think it’s safer for those around me if I back up against a wall (while going into a spot) rather than into other vehicles or pedestrians (while backing out of a spot).
It might just be possible that Tesla superchargers can provide AC power if the DC fast charge negotiation fails. They might have done it to support the original Roadster… Although, I am fairly sure this was never officially announced.

I think it makes sense for layouts that are run by multiple people, especially for modular setups that change configuration at every show. I see no need for it for my own layout. Note: I don’t like sound systems either. I do realize that for some sound is a must and DCC does help in that case.

I did have to replace the cellular modem when 3G coverage started declining. Maybe access was baked into the cost of the 4G modem. It was never spelled out if that was the case.
