Anyway, that’s the shape of it, and I’ll be posting updates here and on the site until then - but otherwise join me in September for a new round of nonsense.

Until then, the whole of The Forthenby Inheritance is available to read, for #free, online: forthenby.com/chapter-1/

This always sounds good until we find out who is considered toxic.

Like is funding a legal campaign to erase an entire group's existence & posting triumphant selfies every time you manage to hurt them more or less toxic than the people who are hurt being upset about it?

These are vital questions!

Right. Okay. We’re back on track.

Was hoping for a September Release, but it’ll be this month.

Hold on to your hats, Teddy Valance is back.

(Also, I promise I’ll get Book Two moving soon. Sorry for the delay, I’ve been that horrible mix of bust and ill.)

I’ve managed to score about 3 kilos of apricots, which is not a spoiler for book three, but it’s not-NOT a spoiler for book three.

Wish me luck. Serafina will be at my shoulder.

Sometimes I wonder if people understand the intimacy of punishment.

A terrifying sentence and exactly what concerns me. In Orwell's 1984, machines generate books for the masses, ersatz culture devoid of originality. And now here we are.

People say they are worried about the machines taking control, but they don't have to - we're giving it away!

"Once you use ChatGPT, you don't want to think for yourself anymore"

THAT IS A TERRIFYING SENTENCE

imagine relying on AI to write your bio and then having the nerve to say you're witty and full of personality

Kinda tempted to put a notice on the site saying, “If you feed this into AI, I will add a fisting scene.”

Poisoning your datasets through poorly negotiated kink.

when I talk about wanting “messy” queer stories, I don’t mean unedited. I don’t mean full of typos. I mean good stories where everything isn’t laid out crystal clear with black and white morals. I mean stories where everyone’s a little bad and a little good. messy as in HUMAN, complex, deep

writers: stop trying to reassure me who’s good and who’s bad and who deserves capital punishment in stories.
start telling me lies that are so pretty, I willingly follow them somewhere awful and say thank you when I’m there

Apologies for the delays to all things Forthenby, last couple of weeks have been a bit wild, and *gestures* have you seen what’s going on out there?
earlofforthenby.bsky.social
Urgh, how is it I could have had this blurb completely planned out in my brain and now I try to put it on the page?

I’d have paid at least a bit of attention to commercial structure.

If you were to completely wipe out your writing career and start from the beginning, what's something you'd do differently? A piece of advice you'd follow, a mistake you'd avoid, etc #WritingPrompt

I have been told I need to cut at least half a page of Dickie maundering which… fair.

We even get an actual look at the Forthenby estate, which has hitherto lurked at the edges of the narrative. So, one for fans of stately homes.

(For the curious, it’s based a little bit on Kingston Lacey, and little bit on Knole, and an awful lot on Audley End in Essex.)
earlofforthenby.bsky.social
In addition to this, we get a lot more Peaches, and to meet a few more members of the Valance clan - especially Lady Charlotte Valance, who is mentions a couple of times in Book One.

By which I mean it’s still smutty, anachronistic, implausible, and ridiculous. It also has a really hot #threesome scene of which I’m very proud, and Serafina finally getting to lose her shit in a Big And Dramatic Way.

She’s earned it.

It’s a shorter, slightly more somber read than The Forthenby Inheritance, as it deals with thing like consequences, permanence, and not living life hand to mouth/waiting for an ending.

But it’s only somber in comparison to The Forthenby Inheritance.

So, Sunday evening, and it’s time to answer the question: what is next for Forthenby?

Well, Book 2 is going to be starting soon, hopefully in late September, with a title reveal coming in the next week or so.

I know this account seems like endless self-promotion, because I do most of my Being A Person on my other account, and that makes it hard.

But I really value every reader and commenter, and the tiny, voluntary, backstage crew more than anything.

I just want to say a massive thank you to the people who have beta, proof, and simply read Forthenby at all the stages of its being.

It’s a passion project, always has been, and I’m so grateful to you all.
