Looks like the system affecting the northeast tomorrow will have a pretty intense low level jet. The 18z HRRR depicts 925mb winds of 85-90kt in the jet core. The big question is: how much of this wind will actually affect the surface…

Ah okay sure yeah, the ongoing attacks on science from the Trump admin have nothing to do with Project 2025. Instead it is because Obama appointees “created sharpiegate.”

A little over an hour of 1-min wind speed data from last night's cold front passage from Stony Brook beach. These data have little use, since they are collected on a car mounted anemometer (z~2m). That said, it is neat to compare with the NYSM Stony Brook site less than a mile to the east.

Intriguing synoptic similarities between tmr (11/5/25) and the 10/7/20 low-topped derecho.
Thankfully, timing appears to be on our side with the cold front entering WNY in the evening. Missing diurnal Tmax (and a slightly drier prefrontal airmass) should result in a weaker, instability-starved line

That’s…not at all how this works. As the NHC’s wind field image shows, Jamaica is only experiencing tropical storm-force winds right now, with weaker winds elsewhere. The most widespread and longest-lasting impact has and will be extreme rain - for which the prep is rather different than wind.

The dude texted "I'm going to shoot protestors", then went and shot a Black Lives Matter protester. He was convicted in a jury trial.
