You know Trump's in trouble when even Nate Silver's poll average can't hide the massive jump in disapproval

Thanks for ruining my birthday
The House Oversight Committee just scheduled a virtual deposition with Ghislane Maxwell on February 9.

Dear ICE: Hear you're headed to Philly. 1) Good luck. 2) to our fabulous videographers across the city, your project is to put every embarassing video of these idiots into a super cut to the Action News theme. (Only people from philly will understand this) www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozZT...

I've said it for 20 years: kowtowing to south Florida Cubans is a losing battle. They are single issue voters and nothing short of saying we're going into Cuba to kick the Commies out will placate them. Now they're finding out. I am sorry, but I fail to have any sympathy here.

How to lose a primary before you even run
Yes it’s cold in Minnesota—but we embrace it. John and I were in Hastings with Mayor Fasbender for Hockey Day Minnesota to watch my alma mater, Wayzata High School, take on Rogers. Photo taken with parents right after their son scored a goal!

Karp has done more damage to AI in a year than Sam Altman did in five. It really isn't hard to have a moral compass. Ask Anthropic. They've refused to provide the US Gov't or any other goverment access to their technology for defense purposes. It's enough of an issue Miller has mentioned it.
I’m tired of being talked down to by people like this. They are doing the Elon Musk Mars In 2 Years bit but have tied the entire U.S. economy to a bespoke compliment generator. It’s time to start talking about these AI mutants like delusional babies.
“There will be more than enough jobs for the citizens of your nation, esp. those with vocational training,” said Karp. “I do think these trends really do make it hard to imagine why we should have large-scale immigration unless you have a very specialized skill.”

Pulling my own reply out into my feed because it's important. There really was a massive shift post-Weatherbell (and copycats). I think the content you see today would also be drastically different without it. UI was not something model developers thought about.
While I may have my disagreements with him, it's not an understatement to say that Dr. Maue's work on making weather model data more graphically ingestible completely changed how meteorologists communicated forecasts with the public. There's just such a drastic difference.

Max Velocity is like the Joe Rogan of Weather YouTube guys. It's like the conspiracy theory corner of the medium! If the weather community is going to get its panties in an uproar over this, we can at least be honest that the dude is making six figures with no real experience other than a degree.

People worried about sharing 120 hour weather models, and this shit is on the internet, or kids making up their own severe storm scales (PA Weather Action, looking at you)
I've lived in Minnesota my whole life and have experienced some major cold snaps but this is the first time I've heard about exploding trees.

People understand what a weather model is at this point. Let's not insult the intelligence of the average viewer here. The "GFS" and "Euro" are not just slang in the weather community anymore. Simply calling it sensationalism is a little bit disingenuous. People want to know.
The sad thing is that a not-insignificant amount of "old guard" meteorologists are falling into the YouTube sensationalism to keep their engagement numbers up.

A solid 70% of the extreme model images I've seen on Facebook were posted by broadcast meteorologists.
This is interesting because it's kind of the exact dynamic of sports media over the last 20 years. A bunch of newer blogger/amateur/enthusiast types are more sensationalist about forecasts and models and the old guard believe it's totally irresponsible.

I caution people making judgments about the weather community from Twitter/X. This behavior is not new and has always been there. Outside of Twitter on YouTube, the discussion is scientific. People judge YT content on thumbnails. Twitter discussions on weather could never exist without politics.

Time for some weather talk. Anyone forecasting a major storm north of the Mason-Dixon this weekend is foolish. Modeling has not budged in keeping the heaviest axis across Virginia. Sure it will be big up here, but hyping this storm across the Piedmont I think is more than warranted at this point.

Taylor Swift’s new music is… bad. Like it is the most uncreative pop I’ve heard in a long time. Sounds like she just mailed it in.

While everybody may be cheering Macron on the US side, having just read a story from Europe on what's going on in Paris, it's clear that Macron isn't much different from Trump in private, just different politics. Kind of also helped explain how Macron went from wonder boy to 20% approval, too.

On AF1 returning to DC: AF1 is being turned around for an electrical issue, and Trump will apparently transfer to another plan upon return.

HOLY SHIT. I just realized some 20 years later than Admiral Cain from BattleStar Galactica reboot is Ro Lauren!!!! I KNEW I KNEW HER FROM SOMEWHERE. haha

Hate to keep posting about that damn church protest, but the reaction from some is just so stupid considering how not important to US/world events it is right now. But I knew sooner or later this would start, that the base is driving the bus. Can't have that! Voters want us to wait for November.
January 20, 2026 at 6:23 PM
The folks coming in from Tom Nichols' repost are exactly what you'd think they would be. Every single one sounds like a Republican, trying to tell me what non-Democrats are saying about this damn church thing. Too bad Mom works with Trumpers. I can tell you they're very much not. You'd be surprised.
January 20, 2026 at 6:16 PM
Here's the thing about people like Andy Ogles: in "tsunami wave" elections, people like this are the ones that get upset by random Democrats. Some of these folks really need to watch it, especially if they have a opponent. People may just say, eh, enough, and not vote. Weird things happen.
Rep. Andy Ogles on Fox Business: "They're libtards in a blue city ... if the libtards are gonna side with lawlessness, that's on them"

Could some of the old left media really try to spend less time punching left and more time on the man in the White House? It really seems like it's too much to ask of a certain group of people.
January 20, 2026 at 1:08 PM
It's why I am criticizing these establishment Dems posting about this damn church protest. Guys, nobody cares about this outside of social media. Trump's BEHAVIOR is bizarre, and what has voter's attention. Dems treat voters like absolute idiots: they're more than capable of understanding context.
Substance aside I wonder how any MAGA feel proud of this moment. Perhaps the most embarrassing display ever for a president. I don't like the guy and I almost feel bad for how cringe he is.

It's kinda dumb for optics but on the things that are dumb these days it barely ranks as worth mentioning.

Americans are so soft if this is troubling. A lot more than this may need to be done to end this authoritarian siege.
I was working on this Greenland piece all day and didn't see the video of people barging into a church until now.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Yes, I know, some of you on Bluesky will think it was awesome, but in the fight for public opinion? Stupid stupid stupid.
Also: Stupid.

What people in America are actually worried about (read: not a church protest)
Trump posts an image of him planting the American flag on Greenland alongside a sign that says “Greenland US Territory est 2026”

It really comes down to the Senate itself, not party. The institution itself is broken. Yeah, a Democratic Senate will be 1,000x better. But in the end, will anything truly change? Probably not.
Trump is creating an increasingly unstable world and the fucking Senate Democrats are either asleep at the wheel or in on the job. They’re simply no explanation for their silence.
January 20, 2026 at 6:19 AM
Bluesky has done one thing for Dems that was sorely needed: removed the grip of loud clout-chasing social media voices. I don't think it's coincidental that the changes in the positions of Dem voters accelerated post-Twitter. Dem voices on Twitter were NOT representative of the party at large.
