Last month, Secretary Kennedy had a press conference where he claimed that the original intent of the ADA was to exclude trans people. So I asked a bunch of experts and someone who was actually there.
Disability groups are standing united for trans rights. That hasn't always been the case.
Forty years ago, disability advocates abandoned the LGBTQ+ community in exchange for legal protections. Decades later, they are fighting a Trump administration rule to roll-back more safeguards for tr...

this is the same principle through which Supreme Court forbid Democrats from requiring states to adopt the ACA Medicaid expansion, except the lever is “lawless paramilitary violence” instead of “financial penalties”
Just, you know, going out on a limb, but if states constitutionally don’t have to act as instruments of federal law enforcement, seems like a campaign of terror against the civilian population to coerce them to do so ought also to be unconstitutional.

This really broke my heart to find out she passed away.

If you guys don’t know who this woman is, she’s someone who was helping homeless people in Skip Row with free food, hair, bathing, and make up.

She was always doing good for the people. Another one of God‘s blessings has entered heaven. 🥺🕊️

HSGAC is voting on the bill next Wednesday. The House may vote on this on the floor next week.

I truly hate to ask DC residents to have to call members of Congress about a local budget issue yet again, but here we are.

We’d have a $224m shortfall this fiscal year if passed.

For advocates, if these congressional resolutions are passed disapproving of LOCAL tax code changes, it would also overturn funding for the local child tax credit and expanded local EITC.

DC is not unique. Many states like Rhode Island, Virginia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Delaware have already done this.

But because DC is more of a colony, a Senator from Florida and a Rep from Texas can push this without caring about the impact. www.ncsl.org/fiscal/2025-...
2025 Tax Conformity Changes

Background: Like many states and local govts, parts of DC’s tax code was linked to the federal tax code.

Changes to the tax code due to One Big Beautiful Bill would have resulted in HUGE local revenue losses including $224m this fiscal year.

So we acted to separate parts.

🚨As if DC didn’t already have enough to deal with, today we learned the Senate and House will vote next wk on SJ Res. 102 and HJ Res. 142 to disapprove a bill to decouple provisions of DC’s tax code from the feds.

This would blow a $820 MILLION hole through the financial plan!

Bari's CBS moves have been reminding me a *lot* of church plants. Always launching with flashing neon promises about being the different kind of church you've been waiting for and then you show up on Sunday morning ready to be dazzled and it's just John Piper with tattoos.
I think the defining quality of Bari Weiss media is her insistence on the need for dramatic change or bold action - followed by a parade of the most aged, tired, impossibly dull figures or ideas, except they’re also always underqualified amateurs or cranks.
Along w/ Huberman, CBS also announced Mark Hyman, a longtime RFK Jr ally and functional medicine proponent, and Peter Attia, a longevity influencer, as contributors. All three were cited by Kennedy in a recent interview as the best people for lifestyle advice.

100%. I honestly believe political leaders ask too little of people. The thinking is you need an extraordinarily low bar - so ask people for money or to sign something. People want to be part of something and they're eager to do real meaningful work in defense of their community and their rights.
I have begun to think that Minnesota pushback to ICE was unique and a model because it gave people something to do. It wasn’t about just going out in streets for rallying purposes. People had a mission: videos, whistles, information and communication flow to communities. They had something to do.

Worth noting you likely wouldn't have this pointed but helpful kind of interagency critique in a world without agency independence--at least not unless a president wants it. I don't think people realize how much we gain from structured conflict in the executive branch.

Some are pushing off paying for retirement, or dipping into their savings. Some are looking for extra work to afford plans that they aren’t sure will actually cover their health care bills. Some are planning to go w/o insurance, hoping they won’t get too sick to manage medical expenses on their own.
Health insurance costs are up. Women and LGBTQ+ people are paying the price.
After the expiration of ACA subsidies, soaring health care costs have forced some to dip into savings, take on second jobs or go without coverage.
