I can't tell if the NDP voters here are more patriotic or more out to lunch. Either way, total failure of actual left wing analysis among NDP voters is on full display.
“Would you lay down your life for your country” becomes a surprisingly partisan question when it’s asked as a specific plausible instance of needing to lay down your life for your country

An extra third thing that bothers me is that Metrolinx is an amorphous entity that people blame for everything and it acts as a beating dummy that shields the MTO, Ministry of Transportation of Ontario from blame, which is more associated with the political government at the time.

We often talk about how P3s are good because it offloads risk onto the private sector (we've now learned this doesn't happen, the public just gets sued or blamed every time there is a delay/issue).

But we don't talk about how it offloads blame onto the public agency/gov. (2/2)

I think one of the big issues about P3s (Public-Private Partnerships) that we don't talk about is how blame is shifted onto public agencies for failures of the private sector.

Yes Metrolinx and TTC have some issues, but I see no public criticism of Mosaic Transit Group, the consortium. (1/2)

The reports of violence, arbitrary arrests, and intimidation tactics by the Iranian regime against its own people are profoundly concerning. Canada strongly condemns the killing of protesters, and urges Iran to allow for freedom of expression and peaceful assembly without fear of reprisal.

Sorry, but triumphant claims about autonomous vehicle safety are wildly exaggerated.

It's an open question whether today’s self-driving cars are any safer than those driven by humans.

And if reducing crashes is the goal, that isn’t even the right question.

My deep dive, in Bloomberg 🧵
We Still Don’t Know if Robotaxis Are Safer Than Human Drivers
And even if self-driving technology proves to be less dangerous, there are many better ways to improve traffic safety and prevent fatal crashes.

Canada is "20 years behind" on flood planning, experts say, and maps meant to show at-risk areas are severely outdated. That poses harm to people and property, but plans to update flood maps often anger homeowners, who worry about insurance costs and property values. thenarwhal.ca/outdated-flo...

I hate these charts so much because they imply chatgpt is comparable to the internet or phones

You could create the same graphic for full screen pop-up advertising on websites and make them look like ultra-rapid technology adoption when really they were just baked unavoidably into the internet
In 2025, AI became pervasive in American life and the economy, with ChatGPT surging in adoption much faster than any other major technology in memory. @nytopinion.nytimes.com

Lmaooo. I hate glossy paper so much
The current big drama in the increasingly stupid western comic book world: DC released cult classic title Warlord on a (more expensive) paperstock that matches original newsprint, giving a more accurate coloring. Collectors are review bombing in outrage because they think glossy = more expensive.

In this piece from our latest issue, @therewasnosound.bsky.social unpacks how the ‘independence’ platforms like Substack offer is a individualized survival strategy and business model that ultimately isolates workers and undermines worker power.
