"Archaeologists discovered that people have known about popcorn for millennia [...] Between 2007 and 2011, evidence as early as 4,700 BCE for popping corn were discovered as macrofossil cobs" (yes I read the Wikipedia page on popcorn while eating popcorn) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popcorn...

Talking about wildfire predictions with numerical simulations and machine learning models. What I found the most interesting during my research is how ecosystems have adapted to fire and how indigenous communities developed controlled burns to modify their environment.

I wanna talk about copyright. I got comments in my video about monopolization in the GPU market pointing out that large companies weaponize patents to get rid of competitors. And with AI taking space in creative careers, it seems like copyright laws should be updated or dropped. A few thoughts 🧵

This is the sequel to the video I made in March about how complicated GPU programming can get. Here, I tried to figure out WHY it is so inconvenient and how it can evolve in the future.

My new video explains my various grievances about the ambient AI discourse. We often run in loops discussing the same things ("will we lose jobs", "when will AGI happen"), I try to avoid speculations to focus to current and real problems.

NEW DWARF PLANET ALERT - 2017 OF201 is 700 km wide (smaller than Ceres, bigger than Vesta) and takes 25000 years to orbit the Sun. Its discoverers say that makes "planet X" even less likely to exist (other astronomers disagree). Article not peer-reviewed yet

1. As almost every research shows, young men have NOT turned to the right — compared to older men. In fact, they moved slightly to the left compared to older men.

Young WOMEN have turned to the left compared to older women.

Recent graph on Trump approval provides good example.

My favorite bug is the 2015 Dreamliner overflow. If you don't power cycle the airplane within 248 days (2^31 centiseconds), the electrical power straight up shuts down. Apparently it has been fixed by now.

What fascinates me the most about this is how presumably competent CEOs jump into AI hype so easily. And they are the ones running the economy!

Still, 25 % is pretty high in my eyes. I wonder how it compares to other technologies.
I wrote about the myth of the "AI-native" startup and new data finding buyers' remorse from CEOs who have attempted to spread it throughout their organizations www.platformer.news/ai-native-st...
