When I was on contract as a web designer I made more money in one day than my advance for the small press novel I'd spent years working on.
I often joke that full-time employment is the best artists' grant you can get.

I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

This was posted in context of folks criticizing protests, but this is my personal pet peeve about those who complain about art, esp abstract expressionism. "I could've done that." Great! Get yourself a 20' tall canvas and some paints and do it.

#can-con folks! I asked the hotel front desk to call me a taxi and they said it can take 30-40 min to get there. Give yourself lots of time, or book online beforehand.
