The AI features added to Notepad created a critical exploit vulnerable to loading a compromised txt file.

The fix is part of Patch Tuesday, so update your systems.

AI is not a feature I ever desired in Notepad. I should look into some alternatives...

A critical remote code execution vulnerability found in the AI-upgraded Windows 11 Notepad has fueled renewed criticism of Microsoft's forced AI feature creep.

In China’s Yangtze River, the finless porpoise population is rising: the latest count puts it at 1,426 in 2025, up 177 since 2022. Scientists link the recovery to the ten year fishing ban that began in 2021, alongside tighter habitat protection and monitoring. buff.ly/hzREApS

My provider tried to get me to approve an AI scribe, but the receptionist couldn't even tell me what company was in charge of it or what the program was. I probably would have said no either way, but I definitely said no after that.
I'm actually considering putting a blanket request to my medical provider teams to not use "AI" for my care in any context where they can avoid it, unless and until i a) get a disclosure as to what the system is and how it supposedly works and then b) specifically approve it in each instance.

i've been thinking about putting together a collection of templates and examples around stuff like this to help people who know they don't like it but aren't sure how to express their concerns. i sent this one to my kid's teacher
I ended up drafting an email that didn't really lean on research specific to grade school education, but expressed my concerns in the most basic terms.

I removed the personal details and have shared it as a template here for folks who might find it useful:

It reduced surgery times by 40% and recovery times/hospital stays by 50%. Bucholz started a medical journal (and hired a questionable webmaster) and eventually productized his work. It is now used in many ORs for ENT and brain surgery. It does this physics, imaging, and science, not AI.

Tech people have a pattern where they stumble up to basically any area of human endeavor and underestimate / misunderstand what is being done so wildly that they immediately start yapping about how whatever new shiny they are trying to sell can totally replace the whole discipline or industry.

In a normal government, this results in the resignation of multiple cabinet officials (Transportation, Defense, and Homeland Security), and the closure or (at least!) radical reorg of the cartoonishly incompetent agency at the center of it: CBP.

This is an incredible photo.
Every photo from Minneapolis looks like this. Cops decked out with guns and full tac gear facing off against people in bathrobes, parkas, and sweatpants armed only with whistles and cell phones.

Yet every verified MAGA chode on X dutifully calls it a riot or violent insurrection.
