(comprenez : badass)

Learning to Bleed comes out March 18th and artist @scherville.com is so deeply talented I can hardly believe it!

This book is the 2nd in a trilogy that explores queerness and trauma through vampire lore, all against the backdrop of an impoverished rural community that has its own monsters 👀

Links⬇️
The cover of Learning to Bleed by Cat Rector, the sequel to Coal Gets In Your Veins. The cover is in the style of a classical painting, with a blush-grey background. In the foreground are two characters locked in a dipping embrace. Spencer, a pale man in a dark blue turtleneck sweater and jeans, with blonde bed-head hair, is holding up another character as she loses control and seems to be falling. His expression is lost and loving as he looks down at her. Laurel is leaning back in his arms, her long brown hair in waves over her back, her face up to the sky as her expression of uncontrolled rage stares upward. Her eyes are red and her mouth is wide open, showing her vampire fangs. A pool of blood soaks into the shoulder of Spencer’s sweater, coming from Laurel’s hand as it hangs above his shoulder. Laurel wears a tank top and red and black plaid. A red mist obscures their legs, making room for the title and author text. The cover artist is Scherville.

I'm on the verge of not coming back here because I'm so tired of reading about hate and death. But also, it's so important to know about what's happening in the world. I don't know what to do anymore. I want to be aware that my trans friends are in danger, that there are genocide currently happening

It's my birthday! As a gift, can I ask you to share my art?🙏

I love drawing vibrant fantasy illustrations, especially in the field of TTRPGs. And speaking of TTRPGs, check out the post below for more fantasy goodness ⬇️✨
Illustration of Mollymauk Tealeaf from Critical Role's the Mighty Nein. Molly is sitting and smiling at some shiny moths that are playfully surrounding him. Around him there is an art nouveau inspired arched frame. Illustration of Caduceus Clasy from Critical Role's the Mighty Nein.
Caduceus is sitting with a serene expression, playing with some golden butterflies surrounding him. Around him there is an art nouveau inspired arched frame. Illustration of a blue-skinned character with asymmetrical horns, reminiscent of a half moon. The character is casting a pearlescent, bright spell. They're in a room at night, standing on a decorated pedestal on the floor, in front of shelves full of books. Illustration of a knight and a pegasus, behind them a blue sky with golden sunset clouds.
The knight is wearing shining, ceremonial armour in silver, blue and gold. In one hand he holds his helmet, the other hand is stroking the nose of the pegasus. The knight’s head rests delicately on the horse’s, in a gesture of delicate friendship. The pegasus is raising one of his wings to hug the knight in return of the gesture.

reposting with alt text because I think the choice to include homophobia and transphobia in particular here is actually very much worth drawing attention to. nuns emphatically stating that those “do not reflect the qualities of a saint” is a very clear callout of Cardinal Dolan
<
Sisters of Charity, New York 20h • ©
Several of us watched Cardinal Dolan's recent FOX interview, where he referred to Charlie Kirk as "a modern-day St. Paul." The Cardinal praised Mr. Kirk's conviction and willingness to speak about the Lord and for being a model for young people looking for meaning in their lives.
We grieve every loss of life and unequivocally condemn the killing of Mr. Kirk.
What Cardinal Dolan may not have known is that many of Mr. Kirk's words were_ marked by racist, homophobic, transphobic, and anti-immigrant rhetoric, by violent pro-gun advocacy, and by the promotion of Christian nationalism. These prejudicial words do not reflect the qualities of a saint. To compare Mr. Kirk to St. Paul risks confusing the true witness of the Gospel and giving undue sanction to words and actions that hurt the very people Jesus calls us to love.
Just last week, Cardinal Dolan joined us in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the canonization of our Foundress, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Elizabeth's legacy is not one of exclusion or hatred, but of radical welcome, tireless service, and unwavering love of neighbor. Many of Mr. Kirk's words stand in stark contrast to the charity and compassion that defined those of Elizabeth Seton. For generations, the Sisters of Charity of New York have cared for immigrant families arriving with nothing but hope.
While our direct service has changed, our commitment to those families endures. They deserve true examples of discipleship, not false prophets.
In this moment, we reaffirm our mission: to walk with all people who are poor and marginalized, to welcome immigrants and refugees, to defend the dignity of LGBTQ+ persons, and to labor for peace in a world saturated with violence. These are the marks of authentic discipleship. These are the qualities of saints.
We urge our Church leadership, including Cardinal Dolan, to lift up witnesses whose lives truly reflect the Gospel of Jesus Christ - lives of humility, justice, compassion, and peace.
We will continue to pray for Mr. Kirk, his family and for all who mourn his loss.

Never forget that Norman Rockwell, debatably the most famous American artist to ever put brush to canvas, was not afraid to show the ugliness along with the good. Having his work/reputation sanitized and trimmed into marketable nostalgia is about American as it gets.
