NYT is really obfuscating "sexual content" by not saying books about sexual education.

A library director in Wyoming who was fired two years ago because she refused to remove books with sexual content and LGBTQ themes from a library’s children and young adult sections was awarded $700,000 in a settlement on Wednesday.
Librarian Fired in Books Dispute to Receive $700,000 Settlement
County officials in Wyoming fired Terri Lesley, a library director, after she refused to purge children and young adult books that contained sexual content and L.G.B.T.Q. themes.

One day I imagine you with completely bespoke items that never existed but could have. Like maybe a Zima vending machine.

This Sunday I'm putting together a big (10 hour) event for my FC in FFXIV called Pawbs Day! Filled with games, educational events, and social events. This year I themed it to be an Academy and unveiled our school colors. I'm nervous about the event, but hopefully users have fun!

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

In Brazil, duding Bolsonaro's government, we repeated the phrase "no one lets go of anyone's hands"

We defeated him by sticking together. We defeat hate by helping ~everyone~ who is suffering. Protecting trans rights is protecting human rights

I just hope more people start realizing that

What is "plenary authority" and why is it a big deal that Miller said that Trump has it over the national guard?
4 frame comic where Miller slowly blinks. Text reads. A few hours ago, speaking on cnn about Trump's plan to send the national guard into us cities, Miller said : under title 10 of the us code, the president has plenary authority, has... He then fully stopped talking and just blinked at the camera, as if he realized that he said the quiet part out loud. "Plenary authority" means "complete power over a particular area with no limitayions". It is equivalent to ruling by decree, which us how Mussolini, Stalin or Hitler governed. Having "plenary authority" over the military would mean that Trump can just use the national guard as he pleases, no matter what the courts say. It's a power grab.

It cannot be stressed enough that the majority of right wingers that engage in culture war nonsense are people who have PsyOp'd themselves into seeing "pattern recognition" everywhere in the same way that biblical numerologists have a heart attack every time they see the number 666 somewhere.

It's not AI if you can't trick it into deleting itself or make it lock up by asking it to resolve a logical paradox.

Nope. Forums were important for me, but not "make a profile and put yourself out there" social media.

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

Pretty much in agreement here. Goofy ass creature feature with a fun creature suit and amazing crone make up. Sweet and simple Halloween revenge story for your spooky month enjoyment.

1/31 "Pumpkinhead"
3.5⭐
City Kids oopsie kill a boy in the mid-1900s deep South, and the boy's dad consults a backwood witch to send a demon to seek vengeance.
- Wowie zowie the lighting and practical effects go HARD.
- It's almost southern...camp?
- It's a fairly predictable story/character arcs

Incredibly vibrant. Great performances, great visuals, beautiful Oz-like colorscape. Easy recommend. 4.5 🌟

2/31 "Pearl"
4⭐
A girl kills her way to fame to escape her life farming and caring for her strict mother and enfeebled father. Prequel to "X"
- Amazing performances from Mia Goth and cast
- Fun, worthy prequel for once
- vibrant, colorful scenes and horror, a rare combo
- Gotta watch Maxxxine now

Really fascinating as a video essay in an era before video essayist became a thing. Some really great special effects and costume work for 1922, with fantastic performances and effective close ups of actors faces and feelings. But not super entertaining by and large. 2.5 🌟

3/31 "Häxan"
2⭐
A 1922 Swedish-Danish silent horror essay on witchcraft and demons
- 40% title/text cards
- Crazy sets for the "recreations" in the film
- Actually got banned for showing such demonry on film
- Historically important, but uninteresting outside of context of the times.
enlil.bsky.social
I very much did not enjoy the sensory landscape of this film. The flashing lights, the discordant music, and other elements largely felt like they were challenging for their own sake as an experiment to play on the audience. Uncomfortable to experience and a bit of a flop on the end reveal. 2 🌟

4/31 "Bliss"
3.5⭐
An artist takes a sex, drug, and blood induced murder bender to finish her terrifying masterpiece
- DO NOT WATCH IF YOU HAVE SEIZURES
- Great moments of beautiful violence
- Helluva sensual assault
- Clearly the director does music videos
- Great use of unreliable narration
- Thin
enlil.bsky.social
This one I liked less than this. Atmospheric elements were really strong. It felt like it was on point with going for an "echo" throughout the story. But I don't quite feel that it landed its theme or the character arc it seemingly was presenting. 2.5 🌟 from me.

6/31 "Men"
3⭐
A woman, guilted with her husband's suicide, vacays in a remote village only to be tormented by the men there.
- Garland's most interpretive work
- Feels bloated with overly long scenes "for art's sake"
- Feels like a man writing a woman's film on toxic male microagression
- Insane end
enlil.bsky.social
I was very entertained by this. 4 🌟 from me. I want more powdered faced fancymen running around from monsters.
toby.nookpup.gay
5/31 "The Vourdalak"
3⭐
18th century French noble lost in the woods finds a poor family whose father comes home from battle changed.
- Darkly funny fish-out-of-water story
- Not a vampire. Nope. A Vourdalak.
- The less you know the better, but there is a choice the director made...you won't forget.
