Born and raised in Chesapeake and I can easily see why. It's the poster-child for bland suburban living, filled with folks afraid of cities.

Some of my fondest memories are browsing the local video rental store as a kid/teenager and discovering all sorts of amazing films I never would have discovered otherwise. I hope they make a comeback soon.
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

Nerd alert: as a teen in the 90s I bought two VCRs so could make copies of episodes and trade them with people on the internet. I wish I still had that collection.

👋🏻 Civic engagement novice here. So what does it mean that the Rosemont civic association voted against the Braddock Rd plans? Does it mean anything for the actual approval process with the city or is it just for show?

Finished Katabasis by RF Kuang this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the critical and cultural exploration of academia. It can truly be a hellscape.

We dined at Pineapple and Pearls last night for my birthday dinner. Our amuse-bouche was a crepe stuffed with caviar and cheese topped with edible gold leaf that you weren’t “allowed” to eat with your hands.

Obsessed with these little electric two seater cars. It seems you can drive them on the road or in the bike lanes here.
