"Stop killing people" pretty much sums up my politics these days, whether we're talking genocide, covid, the environmental/healthcare/housing crisis, food insecurity, police brutality, lack of disability rights, attacks on LGBTQ+ folx, no access to reproductive medical care, etc etc etc. Just stop.

Jackson Lamb on Slow Horses has to be one of the most off-putting characters I've ever watched. A misophonia nightmare. A deliberate assault on all the senses. And yet, I'm glued to that show lol.

And sending thoughts of support and solidarity to people with ME in the UK who are being put through the gauntlet even more lately.

To be clear, I'm not just blaming doctors in the UK. Doctors here in Canada are seldom better and even without that influence likely would've disbelieved us all on their own.

And I'm grateful to the doctors/scientists who are dedicating themselves to researching ME/CFS despite the stigma attached.

Anyway, that's today's chronic illness rant fuelled by pent up rage.

I really wish people with ME/CFS could catch any kind of a break. There HAS been good news lately in terms of research, but too many doctors either fight against it out of bias or aren't up to date and the harm continues.

And yet, these psychologizing charlatans have the gall to say people like me just don't want to get better.

More than half my fucking life of looking for answers and pushing myself with detrimental results proves otherwise.

If I don't do the research, I don't get meds/treatment. The only reason I have diagnoses for any of my multiple chronic illnesses, including ME/CFS is because I Iearned about these conditions and diagnosed myself first.

I went 30+ years without a single diagnosis till a doctor listened to me.

I spend a huge portion of my time and energy (that I already can't afford to spare) on reading studies and researching meds, supplements & treatments that might help me improve.

Why? Because too many doctors aren't doing their damn job and it falls to patients to do it for them.

And any doctor that refers to their patients as "bastards" who just don't want to get better should lose their medical licence. That's a serious breach of ethics.

They need to quit projecting their own apathy and failure onto us.

These doctors, high on their own arrogance, are the ones who've impeded progress and our improvement, pushing dangerous, substandard treatments that ignore real research and worsen those with ME/CFS. And for what? Clout? Dominance over patients? Promoting their field of so-called expertise?

UK proponents of the biopsychosocial view of ME/CFS--a harmful model soundly debunked by actual science--have had far-reaching influence, affecting commonly held opinions of physicians in Canada & the US as well.

THEY are the reason we don't get better, not for lack of trying on our part.

In the firing line, as ever, are the UK’s hundreds of thousands of ME/CFS patients. As a practitioner once remarked, “the bastards don’t want to get better”. If there is one characteristic all the ME/CFS patients I’ve come across have in common, it is a desperation to get better.

ME/CFS is a devastating condition that has long been denied, dismissed, psychologised and underdiagnosed. Research is at last starting to catch up with it, with glimmers of hope for those who have been left untreated for so long.
