Prosecuting Attorney for Washtenaw County, Michigan. Democratic candidate, Michigan Attorney General.
As I’ve written, it was always unlikely that SCOTUS would reconsider marriage equality in this particular case.

But make no mistake: there remains a real appetite to erode LGBTQ equality. And—even with today’s welcome news—we must vigilantly fight back.

Breaking news: The Supreme Court has declined to consider a challenge to its landmark 2015 ruling that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide.

The challenge came from a county clerk who stopped issuing marriage licenses shortly after the ruling.
Supreme Court won’t hear challenge to landmark gay marriage ruling
The announcement indicates there is not an appetite among the high court’s conservative majority to revisit one of the court’s most significant decisions in recent years.

Many of our residents and clients rely on SNAP to afford food - just like millions of Americans. We are thankful that our Washtenaw County Prosecutor is fighting for us all. Thanks, @esavit.bsky.social!
BREAKING: The Trump Administration has filed an “emergency” appeal of a court order requiring it to pay SNAP benefits.

And just now, we’ve joined over 80 local governments & officials in filing a brief urging the continuation of those benefits. /1

Friends, we have a fundraising deadline TOMORROW. Because I don’t take corporate PAC checks, it means I’m spending basically every moment—even in the car—calling human beings to ask them to chip into our campaign.

If you can help out, link is in comments below 👇🏻.

Please consider chipping into an AG fund that’s *not* my campaign’s.

NY AG Letitia James has been indicted. Other AGs who challenge Trump may face similar fates.

This legal defense fund protects AGs & their staff who are targeted for doing their jobs.👇🏻

This morning, I was honored to receive the Frank Kelley Consumer Advocacy Award from the Michigan Bar's Consumer Law Section.

Named for Frank Kelley (who served 10 terms as Michigan AG) the award's presented annually in recognition of outstanding efforts to protect consumers. /1

Today is #ConstitutionDay, so I took a bit of time to reflect on my favorite constitutional provision (yes, I have one), the values it reflects—and the path ahead for our republic.

Today, SCOTUS allowed the government to seize those who look Latino, speak Spanish/accented English, & work a (legal!) low-wage job.

More litigation ahead. But this decision—& what it allows—is repulsive to our Constitution & freedom. It'll be remembered as such for generations.

We’re facing unprecedented threats to due process & civil liberties at the federal level. And so it was my honor to join Rep. Carrie Rheingans, Sheriff Alyshia Dyer, & advocates and legislators from across Michigan to introduce the #DefendMIFreedoms package of bills in the Legislature. (1/2)

Proud to stand with striking Teamsters 332 nurses at Henry Ford Genesys today.

And it bears emphasis (on Labor Day!) they’re striking for us all. They’re fighting not just for fair working conditions, but for safe nurse-to-patient ratios—so those needing medical treatment can get care they deserve.

Happy Labor Day! There’s never been a more important time to stand with working families—or the unions fighting for economic justice for us all.

Proud to walk with AFT Michigan in today’s Detroit Labor Day parade, and to stand with labor today and every day.

The University of Michigan’s decision—under federal threats—to cease providing gender-affirming care to young people is bone-chilling.

Gender-affirming care’s legal in Michigan, & federally.

Yet Trump’s executive order & sham “investigations” cowed a major provider into not offering that care. /1

Was great to join @leahlitman.bsky.social on the @strictscrutiny.bsky.social podcast this week!

Give it a listen…to hear us talk marriage equality, BUT ALSO to catch up on the latest SCOTUS insanity, and to (improbably) hear me talk about Doja Cat.
NEW: The band is back together to chat legal news, including the shadow docket insanity on NIH research funding.

Then Leah chats with Eli Savit, candidate for Michigan AG, about threats to marriage equality

& Kate with Serena Mayeri on her book MARITAL PRIVILEGE

Right now, the government’s holding hearings on a Trump proposal that could eliminate climate regulation in the US.

State AGs can—& must—fight back. I will. I’ll fight to stop Trump’s EPA from toppling the first domino to end climate action. And I’ll fight at every step to protect our future.

With same-sex marriage back before SCOTUS, I have an op-ed in Pride Source on protecting marriage equality in Michigan.

Our next AG must fight for marriage equality—and I will. And we must amend our Michigan constitution to protect against future SCOTUS decisions.

Is your rent too damn high? It might not be “just the market”—it could be collusion.

As Attorney General, I can’t bring housing prices down by myself. What I can do—and I will—is make sure that nobody’s unlawfully jacking up rents higher than they should be.

Corporations shouldn’t be allowed to jack prices up based on who people are—or what they’re going through.

Yet companies are shifting to AI price models that could do just that.

Not on my watch. As AG, I’ll use every legal tool to ensure the price remains the price, for everyone.
