I can’t imagine many situations where vancomycin is logistically easier when daptomycin doesn’t require level monitoring, but at least I’ve got options
#idweek2025 #idsky vancomycin first line for #MRSA pro debate
Also, apparently SIU’s senior fellow was selected to present a case yesterday. Shoutout to Dr Samar Waqar and my old program! #idweek

So excited to finally be here at #IDWeek2025 - starting off with supporting ID Fellows with the purchase of my new favorite shirt (available in the lobby just but the food court ) @idsainfo.bsky.social #IDSky
Someone get me that cefazolin pin. Preferably sent to me by carrier pigeon
Find me for MSSA swag at #IDWeek2025. Limited quantities. #TeamCefazolin #TeamOxacillin #TeamNafcillin and for our non-US colleagues #TeamFlucloxicillin
Since I can’t be at IDWeek this year I’m gonna follow the hashtag to get the biggest hot takes
In other news, I’ve been an attending for 2 weeks. Kinda neat except I ve had to keep studying for boards. Once that’s done, life’s gonna be sweet
*sigh* I guess I’ll start memorizing how Koplik spots look like
The US is on track to lose its measles elimination status this year or early next year.
The current public health leadership seems intent to ignore the outbreak until more children die avoidable deaths.
The vaccine is the most effective way to end the outbreak.

Seems like their discussion is making a point that benefits are seen when the populations include older kids, which may be counter to stewardship efforts.

Also, I now learned that this is a strategy people are looking at. My first reaction is to cringe for stewardship but if it pans out, woah

I started the @idfellowscup.bsky.social so strong but have dropped pretty far down the individual rankings. I should still be good for my board exam next week, right?

Whoops! Trump’s team “mistakenly” fired hundreds of CDC scientists — including the very experts fighting measles and deadly outbreaks — and is now scrambling to rehire them.

America’s public health is being dismantled by sheer incompetence. #BlueSky #MedSky #NewsSky

I don't know whether this has been discussed by anyone yet, but the meta-analysis that claims to find a relationship between acetaminophen and autism: ehjournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10....

Here's how it reported the results for the largest study. This study carries massive weight...

Regardless of the disgraceful nonsense we will likely hear from this administration in the coming days on vaccine “recommendations,” Americas healthcare insurers issued a joint statement tonight saying coverage for Covid and flu shots will remain unchanged from prior years.

Speaks for itself.

Chicago-style “homeland security”: Helicopters, camouflage, door smashed in at 5:30am.

DHS Sec Kristi Noem calls it “Midway Blitz.” Neighbors call it terrorizing.

2 of the 4 people detained? U.S. citizens. This is not security. shorturl.at/Qgh89 #BlueSky #MedSky #NewsSky

I have someone complaining that a trial for hepatitis B vaccines given to newborns is less valid because, unlike for the older children and adults, there was no checklist for fatigue, headache, or dizziness—all things that newborns are good at expressing and caregivers recognize instantly.

It’s not just “chronic Lyme.” Grifters are using nonspecific (ie inaccurate) tests to diagnose people w/ Lyme who don’t even live in areas where Lyme exists. Who wouldn’t want an answer with an easy treatment for symptoms like arthritis, low energy, fatigue, forgetfulness, & other common experiences
Tick-borne disease has given rise to an entire industry of unapproved tests and unproven alternative treatments that experts say should be avoided, including lasers, herbal remedies and electromagnets. “It really is a buyer-beware situation."

I’m having a hard enough time studying for ID boards while taking care of a newborn, and I’m not even working yet. Shoutout to the ones who had kids while in school/residency/fellowship, y’all are stronger than me
I have three goals as an ID doc:
1) end up on Curbsiders as an ID expert so I can give sarcastic career advice on the intro
2) end up on Febrile so I can go on a rant
3) host 1 session of the GW ID Board Review so I can request Mexican music as the music when people are doing the review questions

At Pritzker’s behest, the IL Dept of Public Health is exploring the possibility of bulk-purchasing Covid vaccines straight from manufacturers, a senior Illinois health official confirms. Because there's no better way to say fk-off to RFK Jr & Trump than pure action.

I refuse to have any discussion about the validity or perceived validity of RFK Jr. & his policies & how they are being applied.

The scientific community and my colleagues and teachers have spoken. I will no longer cede an inch to this. Dont invite me nowhere to debate nothing
I’m absolutely speechless.

May our children and our children’s children forgive us.
