Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Just to be absolutely clear:

The President of the United States has absolutely no power to “take away” any right enumerated in the Constitution from any person.

And that is how every single article, blog post, and social media commentary should start when discussing this ludicrous statement.

The @apsa.bsky.social conference was fruitful!

Several people spoke to our researchers to say how excited they are by our dataset.

It seems there is broad interest in data projects, and we’re thrilled to contribute to this burgeoning field!

🙏 Our thanks to everyone who joined us in Salta — we were delighted by the considerable public interest!

The presentations were insightful, including some in-depth anthropological work—studying distinct communities over an extended period of time.

Overall, a valuable experience for all attendees!

Our thanks to everyone who attended the EthnicGoods Workshop, co-hosted with ICSOH-CONICET, in Salta.
The high level of research presented showed that there has not simply been a uniform multicultural turn in Latin America. Rather, the meaning and degree of implementation varies not only across the region but also within countries and policy areas. We were declared "of municipal interest" and here's a plaque to prove it! Some of the team dining out in a beautiful Argentinian restaurant. Researchers in debate!

PUBLIC POLICIES IN CONTEST:
MULTICULTURALISM AND GOVERNANCE OF EDUCATION, HEALTH, AND TERRITORY IN ARGENTINA & LATIN AMERICA

INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP: Aug 28-29, 2025 | Salta, Argentina

Over the past decades, many Latin American governments have adopted constitutional and policy reforms recognising the collective rights of Indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples — ranging from land titling and bilingual intercultural education to culturally adapted healthcare. Yet beyond official rhetoric, how have these reforms been implemented, and with what political and social consequences?

The workshop will examine the “multicultural turn” through the lens of three key policy domains:
• Education: from the introduction of Indigenous languages to intercultural higher ed initiatives.
• Health: incorporating Indigenous medical knowledge into public health systems.
• Territory: legal recognition and governance of Indigenous communal lands.

New article!

Rural–urban divide in support for renewable energy policy: evidence from Nevada’s renewable portfolio standard ballot initiative in 2020, from Inhwan Ko, Nicolas Wittstock & Dawson Frost.

www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
ABSTRACT
Rural areas are critical venues for scaling up renewable energy (RE) development in the United States. Yet, data show rural Americans to be less supportive of government policies that promote RE development than urban Americans. Existing accounts have yet to provide adequate explanations for this rural–urban divide in support for RE policy. Drawing on precinct-level data from the 2020 Nevada State General Election, we examine the relative support for a statewide renewable portfolio standard (RPS) across rural and urban precincts. We find that rural precincts were significantly less supportive of RPS than urban precincts. Importantly, this pattern persists even after controlling for precinct-level partisanship as well as its distance to the closest RE projects. We conclude by discussing a possible mechanism that may lead rural residents to be especially averse to RE policy.

Today I had a paper rejected because it was not “novel” enough.

That's bizarre; it had a love story, character development, a plot twist, and a cliffhanger ending that set up a sequel.
