If you've been meaning to delete that Facebook/Instagram/WhatsApp account you never use, now would be a really good time!
Facebook plans to put facial recognition in its glasses and they think we’re too stupid to fight back.

Their internal memo: “We will launch during a dynamic political environment where many civil society groups that we would expect to attack us would have their resources focused on other concerns.”

Vlaamse klimaatsprong komt niet van de grond? Industrie in crisis
Er worden weliswaar steeds meer middelen ingezet voor de klimaattransitie van de industrie, maar het niet duidelijk of die middelen wel doeltreffend gaan aangewend worden. De industrielobby wil de kos...

it wasn't enough to flood the open source world with AI-generated garbage, now we have to tolerate AI agents generating vindictive hit pieces on you if you reject their PRs

let's put another trillion dollars into this, seems great for humanity
An AI Agent Published a Hit Piece on Me
Summary: An AI agent of unknown ownership autonomously wrote and published a personalized hit piece about me after I rejected its code, attempting to damage my reputation and shame me into acceptin…

obviously the privacy concerns are the most glaring issue here but I'm always baffled that anyone in tech believes that a face scan can tell with any certainty how old someone is.
Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month - all accounts set to "teen-appropriate experience" by default www.theverge.com/tech/875309/...

fellow engineers,

you really need to start asking yourself some questions when building something:

1. how will the police use what i'm making?
2. what kinds of people are the police going to use it against?
3. how many people will be harmed in silence before we find out?

What it actually boils down to is George Carlin was right all along
Making it make sense: Epstein wasn't a global mastermind. He did not orchestrate a vast conspiracy that led us to today.

He was a very rich man with connections to other very rich men. The shared culture of these men is that they have a right to dominate and abuse others without consequence.

Satoshi Kon's work is the stuff of legend.

(Though I've known for years now that Aronofsky is a hack, it still pains me because I genuinely liked The Fountain back when it came out)
I’m not going to repost the abomination that he’s made, but please know that Darren Aronofsky sucks shit and always has. May I suggest watching the sublime filmography of the late Satoshi Kon instead (the person he not so subtlety ripped off)? Can’t really go wrong with anything in his catalogue! 💜

The Dickin Medal is the highest award that can be issued to animals in British military service. Bearing the words "We Also Serve" it has been awarded 75 times since its creation in 1943.

Only one cat has ever received the award.

I'd be the inventor of a pseudo-psychological trait-based marketing system (think human design nonsense). It would crash and burn because I'd mention "yeah everybody's a sucker to believe in this" on an influential scammers podcast
It's unfair that we have to miss out on the grift economy just because we have principles. But we can still pretend.

What's your griftsona? What scam would they pull to make their millions, and how would they ultimately flame out in a suitably spectacular fashion?

"opt in" means turned off by default and people have to go intentionally seek it out and turn it on. not a fan of how techbros are trying to make it synonymous with "opt out," ie turned on by default
All AI features will also be opt-in. I think there are some grey areas in what 'opt-in' means to different people (e.g. is a new toolbar button opt-in?), but the kill switch will absolutely remove all that stuff, and never show it in future. That's unambiguous.
