New @vinsyn.bsky.social arrivals are always exciting, but this month's are especially so because my essay for THE WAIT is here too! Thanks again to @jlalibs.com and @filmmovement.bsky.social for this opportunity!
There are two highly acclaimed action films that I think played fests this year and haven't actually gotten a US release yet. One is TAMURA YUTO: ISOLATED, but I'm forgetting the other... anyone remember?

Much as my ancestors did during the lean winters of prohibition, I have successfully traversed state lines to provide family and friends with much needed but morally frowned upon sustenance for the impending holiday.

I noticed 1991's AFRAID OF THE DARK is now streaming, and in HD, on some sites like Tubi.

My words on this horror hidden gem.

A 25-person startup is developing technology to block the sun and turn down the planet’s thermostat.

The stakes are huge — and the company and its critics say regulations need to catch up.

I... would like to hear their definition of socialism.
BREAKING: The House of Representatives voted 285–98 in favor of a resolution condemning socialism.

Eighty-six Democrats joined Republicans in supporting the measure, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

I'm not a musical connoisseur, and am instead just a simple rube, but the "Revolting Children" song/dance number in the MATILDA musical is fucking great. Dig the whole movie, but I can't help but move my ass to this one.

If a kid (rightfully) punches a nazi or a white supremacist in the face, I'd gently recommend not plastering their face all across the internet.

Is this KL Studio Classics' first release like this? Hard box slipcase and booklet... looks pretty slick! And these are the same discs they released recently that look great.

It is genuinely incredible to me how much evidence there is to support investing in the public good and how much animus there is to do this simple, effective thing.

Eternally fascinated by Mojo Nixon's "Elvis Is Everywhere" saying there's only one single person without a little Elvis in them -- and that "anti-Elvis" is Michael J. Fox.

Went to Powell's last night and picked up two new books for my overflowing to-read shelves!

Heard only great things about EVERYBODY KNOWS, and I am just really intrigued by STRANGE PICTURES -- and its author.

RUN HIDE FIGHT. A whole lot of folks trashed it, many sight unseen, for being in bad taste... but then praise rape/revenge movies or films made by problematic people. Exploitation cinema is supposed to cross lines while "entertaining," and RHF is a solidly fun DIE HARD riff, full stop.
So because my friend Austin is having a bad day because of some holier than thou assholes who can't seem to understand film and art is subjective, I want to know what some of your favorite problematic movies are. I'm talking about movies that if you were asked on a first date what movies you love...

Clive Barker's "In the Hills, the Cities" is an all-timer, and John Bolton's art is equally awesome/nightmarish.

Don't know who needs to hear this, but I can be extremely entertained by MTG's face turn while still understanding that she's a terrible person who I would never support. She's like a stupid Hannibal Lecter in that way.
