He/Him. Horror propagandist & football shitposter.
If it takes you 17 hours to talk about a mid game, maybe you’re not good at your job. (mauler is a pedant).

Ok finished the game. 2 Chinese Room games played, both had the same problem: the story says one thing, the mechanics another.

For the example, the body horror wants to be serious but they treat it like DEAD SPACE. There’s no weight, or even anything wince worthy. They needed to slow the hell down.
Really trying to meet STILL WAKES THE DEEP halfway… but the usual problem of the lack of deep mechanics makes the flaws that much more glaring.

If Ohio State beats Indiana, I think that qualifies as anti-Italian discrimination.

Always a good day when there’s a new Karlo story.

Played a decent chunk of HORSES last night. So far it’s incredibly funny and deeply horrifying. Very strong MOTEL HELL vibes, but cozy sim games the target of the laughter rather than American 1970s horror movie trends.
Just bought Horses off Good Old Games. It's five bucks, it looks interesting, and fuck the payment processors, fuck every single one of those unaccountable devils who think they can tell us what we can look at and how we can spend our money.

4 times down, 12 to go.
1,954 pages read, 5,424 remaining.

I already hated Greek myth retellings (unless they’re by @theworldsgreatestwriter.com) but now I can hate them 🎉 metaphysically 🎉 too. It’s amazing how much is lost when Greek poetry/philosophy is ignored.

Perfect pairing.

Tumbbad low-key one of the best films of the golden age.
Lovingly sliding the film Tumbbad up on the shelf in my brain next to Impetigore and Exhuma

Been chipping away at this one. Finished it off with a no damage kill on the final boss on Lost in the Fog difficulty.

Rotating the Decrepit Crypt of Nightmares in my brain. One of several collections like this, with 50 shot-on-video amateur horror movies from the '90s/early 2000s. A treasure trove that even Tubi scarcely touches

@jrbolt.bsky.social hey man, are you familiar with any weird/mythos films that were part of the ultra low budget SOV era? The type of movie Unearthed Films/Massacre Video would release if it was more violent.

NO ONE LIVES FOREVER 2: A SPY IN HARM’S WAY

The gameplay still feels great, the hardest part of remastering NOLF 2: ASIHW is figuring out who owns the rights when both of the massive corpos involved don’t give a shit.
I would like to know! 🤓👾

I *think* ppl focusing on the endings in horror romance are trying to articulate the genre mix they want—(1) because it’s hard to balance the two, (2) most horror ends happily enough anyway.

If I’m right, the best move is throw away the trope list, the genre signifiers, focus harder on— (1/2)
it's always interesting when conversions about horror romance arise, with even transgressive folks agreeing there is no way for the two to coexist. like it might be a fucked up romance, much like what we see in dark and gothic romance, but idk...

people can get disemboweled and still have a HEA

Finished this set the other day. A damned good follow-up to the first volume—CASTLE bled atmosphere & the gothic, GHOST is the bleakest film out of both sets (less a ghost tale and more existential horror), and MOUNT OE… was odd. Good? But odd. Great practical monsters.

Highly, highly recommend it.

it's not even quite "contempt" I feel when I hear stuff like that. It mostly just makes me dead certain that there is absolutely nothing interesting about the speaker's interior life, that they are not going to have a single thought I will ever need to listen to ever again

if you think "AI" is going to "outperform" writers at "literary fiction" we have nothing else to talk about. there is a fundamental rift in the way we see art and humanity and it's never gonna get solved, even when this AI horseshit goes away

Revisiting DETENTION for the first time in eons. Modern Taiwanese horror couldn’t have asked for a better debut on the world stage.

DETENTION and DEVOTION are the finest one-two punch since SH2 & 3.
