Last night, @jackguignol.bsky.social ran a game of @spookhouse.bsky.social’s Vampryvania, a TTRPG that simulates playing the og Castlevanias.

It was a blast! Genuinely captured the spirit and game feel of Symphony of the Night. If you get the chance, I highly recommend giving it a spin!

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.

There's enough wtf weirdness and tension it rocks - Cuthbert getting her lips glued shut is horrible and awesome, for ex.

Also: justice for Paris! I can say with 20 yrs hindsight her acting isn't any more terrible than anyone else's here. Jared and Robert Ri'chard might even be worse imo.

The most Platinum Dunes of all Dark Castle flicks, some of the dumbest teens ever, a meandering first hour, ugh...but also some real nastiness to the whole waxwork idea, a zany back half, and a big finale that justifies the MCR end song.

It’s official. SILENT HILL F will be considered a classic in about 5 years. (Classics go from ‘divided/mixed’ -> ‘great.’ The bad SHs do the opposite).

I’m really fucking impressed that they recreated the effect and reaction of SH1’s bad ending like it’s 1999.

Part of what makes THE OMEN so mid for me is that it’s an outsider’s film. I grew up on rapture-sploitation made by true believer lunatics for true believer lunatics, & scaring the soft hearted & OCD. Every secular end times horror movie lacks the conviction & batshittery needed to make it work.
