My hometown is really really really old.
Beneath the #Wiltshire Medieval hilltop town of Malmesbury lies a 9ha Iron Age hillfort

Day 10 of the #ArtAdventCalendar

Large Langs
Giclée print on acid-free archival paper
Limited edition of 100
20 x 15cm

These langestines were fresh at the fishmonger at the Leith Market. They looked so bright and peachy-orange against the blue of the ice-filled boxes.

I put this on display today at my studio today. It was originally drawn for the Foik folly exhibition at Sett Studios, a celebration of all things pagan and strange and folky and spooky.

Remember folks: if you have any small amount of artistic talent, any sex appeal, or can make your friends laugh, the richest man on earth is crying screaming throwing up because he can’t be you.

#ArtAdventCalendar day 6: MOONGOATS.

The moongoats were painted at my kitchen table when I lived in a flat at the bottom of Leith Walk during lockdown of 2020. The moongoats were a source of amusing respite, a way to get out of my head and off of this planet.

Today, I went to the Pianodrome in Bruntsfield to sit and listen and sketch. Today's musician was Adam Muir, a wonderfully versatile pianist. I used charcoal and chalk to work in quick expressive lines that captured the energetic and varied repertoire.

#artadventcalendar for the 3rd of December: blue ink birds.

As I've shared my art with more people, I've come to understand the power of knowing your audiences, plural. Then comes a conflict to be resolved, how to make art that is interesting and authentic but is also able to find a home.

Uh oh, I've been writing again.

This time about art markets, saxophonists, dog poo and smiling benignly.

I used to work in a place where one of the middle managers would comment that the younger folks ate like gannets. I heard her benign but strange words as I was painting this little gannet, experimenting with high flow acrylics
