A soft Place to Fall by FenDawnchild. Summary:

After losing and barely surviving the fight for the position of Marine Admiral against Sakazuki, Kuzan is left to fend for himself - and with no direction where to go from there. He ends up breaking from the Marines - and his ex-partner - and eventually comes across the Blackbeard Pirates, led by Marshall D. Teach, who makes him an unexpected offer.

With nowhere else to go and nothing left to lose, Kuzan agrees to join Teach's crew, setting in motion an avalanche of consequences he never could have foreseen.
