After NFS Rivals, Criterion was a skeleton crew for some time. I imagine EA is mostly interested in maintaining one driving game flagship by now. I bristle at the idea that a lack of a Burnout sequel can be characterised as "Paradise killed the franchise, so it's weird that people think it's great."

Quite famously, Criterion was put to work on Need for Speed after Paraside. I don't know whether or not Paraside met EA's internal goals, but it was considered a sales and critical success. www.gamedeveloper.com/design/devs-...

This is a really strange framing. Do you think that a lack of additional games in a franchise is the same as the final game "killing" it? From another angle, would you say that high quality is the same as success is the same as greenlighting a sequel?

I did it. I found the funniest poster.
