If people are finding out as a late as now how Trumpism is wannabe fascism, they should be accepted in a big pro-democracy, pro-pluralism, pro-equality tent. Their belated dissent is welcome. Democracy is in danger and this is not the time for the usual holier-than-thou approach!

I recently read this short book by @finchelsteinf.bsky.social - Breve Historia de la Mentira Fascista (I read it in Spanish from library here) and took a picture of the page on that exact subject.
Los líderes populistas y fascistas tueron la-mados locos a menudo. Pero más que dar un diagnóstico apropiado de la situación, esa visión refleja la confusión de una aposición enfrentada con una forma inusual de política que convierte verdades en mentiras y mentiras en verdades —una confusión que históricamente llevó a la inacción ante el autoritarismo y sus consecuencias de intolerancia. Muchos adversarios de Hitler lo trataron de loco mentiroso. Esa pereza conceptual, perpetuada por tantos antifascistas en la época del Holocausto, contribuyó al éxito nazi. Menospreciando a Hitler como un charlatán patético e impulsivo, podían ignorar la frialdad con que había planeado guerra y genocidio mientras generaba un amplio consenso al respecto entre la población ale-mana. A medida que creaba realidades nuevas, Hitler hacía que el mundo se pareciera cada vez más a las mentiras que contaba. En términos más generales, presentar a estos líderes como embusteros ridículos, una idea más atenta a su estilo que al contenido ideológico profundamente violento y racista de su mensaje, demostró ser una distracción respecto de las consecuencias reales de sus prácticas y políticas. La idea equivocada de que los líderes fascistas están trastornados también contribuyó, erróneamente, a separar a los líderes «anormales» de sus seguidores, supuestamente confundidos pero sanos. Y divorció la ideología política, incluidos el racismo y el antisemitismo, así como las mentiras fascistas, del análisis político, lo que produjo una incapacidad para organizar una oposición clara y eficaz contra la agenda de esos líderes. Esa tendencia a usar la enfermedad mental o un trastorno psiquiátrico para explicar las mentiras y acciones de estos lideres contribuye al malentendido general sobre lo que los hace exito-sos: una pulsión narcisística que los convierte en figuras de genio parecidas a dioses, voces absolutas del pueblo que saben mejor que el pueblo lo que el pueblo realmente quiere.

Nazis are against Jews & they used German words for them. And yes, I am Jewish (or Jude, or Judio) & always proud of it!!! Nazis killed my great grandparents in the Holocaust. I am always against the militarization of politics. Sillence is not an option.

Fascists transform traditional binaries such as “us versus them” or “civilization versus barbarism” into an idea of the other as a total, existential enemy. Fascism always puts hatred and xenophobia at the very center of politics.

But as I write in my book, The Wannabe Fascists: There is no fascism without racism. Fascism is an extreme politics that demonizes enemies and hates diversity. Fascism denies rights for people who are ethnically or racially distinct or who behave, identify, or think differently.

Antisemitism is a variant of racism. In the past, fascism was always racist & xenophobic. Some times it presented antisemitism as a key dimension (Nazis, Italian ,French, Brazillian & Argentine fascists & others) while other times antisemitism was not important in fascist racism.

We are informed that a leader of state terrorism is an antisemite. We need to remember how this makes sense in light of the fascist tradition in politics. Fascism always involves racism & xenophobia. I will explain why this connects w/ some fascist variants, including Nazism.
