Oh gosh!
Empty parking lot at a Minneapolis Target during a statewide strike with many businesses closed today. Target has remained open.

With negative temperatures and a lot of outdoor protest today, the one product people may go in for is sold out at their stores - hand warmers.

I will just keep repeating. I have never never never seen anything like this. 30 years of reporting.
Have a larger story on this coming, but I’ve been embedded with this group, and this story from yesterday is part of what they’ve been doing in the city: religionnews.com/2026/01/22/h...

This video filmed by Ben Luhmann shows the moment a federal agent sprayed chemical irritants directly into a man's face in south Minneapolis.

Three agents already had the man pinned to the ground when a fourth agent walked up and sprayed the irritants.

I grew up in rural N. Minnesota. There's a fascinating diversity of people all over the fucking place. But yeah, if you only interview people day drinking and watching Price Is Right on TV in some dive bar, then yes, you are likely to meet the area's incurious and unintelligent contingent.
NYTimes has truly outdone itself with this latest in its "ask white guys in diner" genre. Thank goodness we get a perspective on what's happening in Minneapolis from people in **Nisswa** who probably mean Brainerd when they say they "prefer not to go the city anymore" www.nytimes.com/2026/01/15/u...

Left my home in Longfellow for a morning doctor's appt in Uptown. ICE all over my neighborhood streets. Neighbors standing on streetcorners bundled up, guarding elementary schools. Horns honking outside the doctor's office as a kidnapping force drives by.

A teenage boy was walking home in Minneapolis yesterday when four masked men jumped out of a van & questioned him - with no parent or guardian present.

He was bundled into the van & taken away.

Bystanders heard the boy say: “Can I just go home?”

I don’t know how America comes back from all this.

This is Lyn-Lake, a commercial hub of South Minneapolis and one of the busiest corridors for traffic and transit in the city.
Trump's thugs are going hog wild and tossing gas around in one of the busiest commercial districts in Minneapolis, just a mile or so from where I live. Complete insanity.

During the uprisings in 2020, Walz sent Minnesota National Guard troops into South Minneapolis to terrorize my neighbors.
State and local law enforcement know the communities they serve. They’ve built the trust and know how to keep us safe.

As Minnesotans express their first amendment rights, I encourage you to remain peaceful and know that local law enforcement has one goal in mind: your safety.

if you want to know what it is like in minneapolis, I don’t even have to scroll on facebook to find a horror story. it’s basically my whole feed.

everyone i know in minneapolis is seeing ICE take people—at gas stations, taquerias, bus stops, schools. just snatching random people.
