Can’t say too much about my job these days but international affairs (especially Asia) is my specialty. I love films, novels, and history. Degrees from Oxford, Virginia Tech, and the London School of Economics. Opinions are entirely my own. He/him

Every Republican President of my lifetime has ended their term with a higher unemployment rate than when they began while every Democrat has finished with a lower unemployment rate than they received - and yet the public almost always rates Republicans higher on the economy.

Absolutely Not This Guy 2028!
The presidency once served as a reminder of our common humanity. Ronald Reagan described its purpose as building "a nation composed of good and decent people."

George Bush would never do anything illegal in a war.
Lindsey Graham: "The least of my concerns is this frickin' video. Release it, make your own decisions. This is lawful. I have every confidence that what they're doing is no different than what Bush did."

To those thinking Russia is winning in Ukraine:

Imagine if when we invaded Iraq, we were almost four years into it, only occupied 20 percent, and lost a million men.

Not a soul would call that “winning.”

He is the worst president ever. It’s not even close.
He may not be the worst president ever but he is without question the worst person to ever serve as president.

It’s basically a lovable film but if you want a legit criticism of it, it’s that the film treats it as financially impossible for George to go to college but the mother of the family doesn’t work and they employ a black woman as a domestic worker. Clearly they aren’t down to their last penny. 🧵⬇️
"The competition to come up with the definitive contrarian takedown of the film is now a Christmas sub-tradition....Every year I read them and laugh, knowing the movie will bury them all. But there has always been one criticism I found harder to ignore."
There Is No Mary Problem in ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’
George’s vision of his wife without him is essential to the film, but critics continue to miss its true—and profound—meaning.

Bogus convictions based on bogus charges based on a bogus law. The Hong Kong and Beijing authorities will face accountability for their cruelty towards Jimmy Lai — one of the bravest human beings of our time. I hope that day will come soon, and we together will bring it about.

In this piece, I share lessons for Americans who are struggling with whether to protest Trump. Drawing from my years working with courageous Chinese activists, I argue that while acting on one’s moral convictions can be risky, it can also feel profoundly good. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Incredible story, exposing how far the CCP will go to hunt down its perceived enemies and how willingly American tech companies enable that abuse. Here, the pursuit of power, control and profit brought diverging interests together to silence dissent.
