Why Catherine? A properly functioning moral compass. Sharp as a tack. But you have to want it (not a LOT, but at least a little). I understand.

Color me "Open" right now. But '26 may make '28 meaningless.

Once again, because it apparently needs repetition:

We, are social primates. On our own, dead social primates. Some form of 'socialism' then, should be second nature to us.

Were it not for those of extreme privilege who deliberately confuse it with excesses it is only tangentally related to.
At today's GOP presser, Mike Johnson links Mamdani to Obama, "who made health care unaffordable with his own socialist scheme."

Calling subsidized private health insurance a socialist scheme is a quick way to show everyone that when you decry "socialism," you just mean anything that helps people.

That's what I heard, too.
I was told NYC would be hell on earth, if Mamdani was elected mayor.
Child at the podium: “A woo woo woo.”

Mamdani: That’s how I felt when we came up with this plan. Together, we will expand the idea of what is possible in our city—and what sounds and noises we can make at a press conference.

So authoritarian USAID.

Bezos paid $250M, which is literally sofa cushion change for him. He cares not a wit if it goes bankrupt. For him, it's a tax deduction. For Americans, a warning about vast riches and politics.
When Bezos first bought WaPo, I viewed this silly underground clock project as a sign of optimism for the paper. He was willing to waste tens of millions on a clock that symbolized long-term thinking; he had cash to burn, and he cared about his legacy. (link is to older story fyi)
Jeff Bezos just shared a new video of a giant $42 million mechanical clock designed to outlast the United States
The 500-foot tall clock, which Bezos is funding, is meant to keep time for 10,000 years.

How will any of this be enforced.

ICE doesn’t give a fuck about court orders.
SENATE AND HOUSE DEMOCRATS ARE UNITED ON REINING IN THE ABUSES OF ICE

Americans have watched in horror as ICE has terrorized communities across the country

Federal agents can’t continue to cause chaos in our cities while more Americans are killed

We must rein in ICE

Here’s what we're demanding:

Could you stop buying 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 from Amazon for 30 days? How about 90 days? This is the only power you have over Jeff Bezos, but you have it.

When he sells WaPo back to a real independent owner, you can call your boycott off.

You have no other power over the man. Zero. But you can hurt him bad.

@cnn.com "New files deepen a critical mystery about those who partied with Jeffrey Epstein"

You misspelled "participated in the abuse of underage women".

How can you treat a series of serious offenses with a wink and indifference? Like a male joke?

Short on space? Partied has 7 letters; abused 6.

Really think, tho, that democracy in the USA is on wobbly legs. If you think there are going to be 'free & fair' elections across America in Nov., I think you're naive.

This implies that MAGA, which 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 had a presidential election majority, ever, is going to just give up & be neutered.

The ERA (Gasp!) couldn't make it thru. The 25th finally came nearly 2 centuries after it was probably needed.

I prefer amendment to abandonment. But I'm convinced Article 5 is the keystone. Agree with you that either 3/5 or 2/3 is better than 3/4.

But who's working on this? (rhetorical)
Mr. Tribe, you like to say there are 28 amendments. But considering the 1st 10 came in a batch, like the 3 Reconstruction amendments (arguably could have been 1), & two canceled each other out, & one simply codified the manner of EC procedure, my count is several fewer.

That is just one example. I'm sure there's a lot of other low-hanging fruit to be picked, however.

Immunity? That SCOTUS decision goes against just about everything anyone who can read "no man is above the law" would assume. An amendment would perhaps put this activist court back on its haunches.

No sensible person ever thought that (What?) thousands of pardons would be appropriate? We now we've seen that loophole, but who can fix it? You could slice the baby, perhaps? How many per term might be appropriate? Three? I'd go with two, but no one can talk about ANY limit.

I'm sorry, Mr. Tribe. But with all due respect, I think your "sweep" is too wide, in your criticism of Jill Lepore.

Essentially, she is correct. The document can hardly be amended. So it's frozen. Let's take one egregious example, the current president's 𝒗𝒂𝒔𝒕 expansion of pardons—beyond imaginable.

Just listen to the first 3 minutes or so. You'll probably want to listen longer, because this is, metaphorically, both barrels of a shotgun detonating in El caudillo gordo's mouth.

And the prescription, could kill a presidency, but maybe cure a country.

Some parents my help their kids break the ban, as well, by getting a phone in their name & giving it to the kid. I certainly can't see any way this doesn't spring a lot of leaks. Not sure how OZ is handling this, but placing most of the onus on the platforms might be somewhat effective.
You certainly can verify ages. But you know what's going to happen, right. There will be a cottage industry making apps that, somehow, work around the age restrictions.

Already this has happened in Oz, where kids reportedly like the ban, but complain about exclusion when others can break it.

The 14-year-olds, and the 15-year-olds, will get almost certain access on the devices of their friends who have turned 16. There are ways to control that. But I don't think liberal societies will be willing to be strict enough. Not unless you're going to give adult-sized penalties to 16-year-olds.
While I basically agree with the idea behind this. The age seems arbitrary, and probably low. Is the 15-year-old-plus-one-day much more equipped for the challenge? I kind of doubt it. Some probably are. But a pretty large group will not be.

And enforcement: a nightmare.
