Any FinTwit refugees have good recommendations for how to invest going forward if securities regulations won’t be enforced and federal spending is going to be primarily directed towards friends of the kleptocracy?
Obvious answer: the two pro-kleptocracy stocks (on a tear), but I can’t support them.

Repeat after me - the institutions of this economy depend on the institutions of this democracy, among which is the rule of law
Jack Smith: "My fear is that we have seen the rule of law function in our country for so long that many of us have come to take it for granted. The rule of law is not self-executing. It depends on our collective commitment to apply it."

Why would we lend the Americans money to buy our stuff and/or defend us instead of using that money to give our people that money to buy our stuff and/or to build stuff to defend ourselves is the Eureka moment of global rebalancing.

It appears Trump really did not like Dimon saying it was wrong for ICE to assault grandmothers this week in Davos.

You may not like Dimon or think he deserves it, but this is a terrible development for freedom in America—the Trump administration is broadcasting its intent to silence all criticism.

Remember that Trump, Miller, Vance, Wiles, Musk, and the 40-50 some GOP Senators who would have voted to confirm Gaetz absolutely knew 100% of the crimes below when he was up for AG.

RFKJ and Hegseth are no better. Noem, Bondi, Patel, Witkoff, and Gabbard are all probably even worse.
The House Ethics Committee found that Matt Gaetz did all of the horrible things previously claimed—sex trafficking minors, prostitution (including of minors), drugs, drunk driving, obstruction, the works. The Florida Bulldog has secured and published the House report this evening.

BREAKING

The framework of the deal President Trump negotiated with the Secretary General of NATO would give the United States sovereignty over small pockets of Greenlandic land where the United States could build military bases.

Just to be clear, they told the press pool Trump is wheels up for Switzerland, but nobody (at all!) actually saw him get off AF1 or saw him board Temu AF1?
January 21, 2026 at 5:29 AM
Do we think there’s a group of NATO leaders gathered all waiting, joking, and hoping for good news somewhere in Davos right now?
So no one from the pool has actually seen him?

It's as if we took a Rodney Dangerfield character with dementia and elected him president
Q: What goals do you have for '26 in Congress for your agenda?

TRUMP: I have great executive orders. Like, water coming out of a sink. The water wouldn't come out. They had all sorts of restrictions. I took them off. Straws. They don't have to be paper anymore. I'd like to have all that confirmed.

Trump is correct— life is much easier (for the dictator!) when they don’t have to worry about any court system, rule of law, or the basic human rights of their citizens.
Trump on the Insurrection Act: "It does make life a lot easier. You don't through the court system. It's just a much easier thing to do."

Frankly: it is ridiculous that Russia (population circa 145 million, awful demographics, GDP of about the same size as Italy) is a security threat to Europe that requires US help to manage. But it currently is.
Reversing that is the first aim. And very very achievable.

There were so many embarrassing comments made at the press conference, but perhaps the most alarming is Trump claiming he prevented the Iranian government from “hanging 837 people”— apparently blissfully unaware that the Iranian government did in fact murder thousands of protestors in the streets.

This post is Trump completely misunderstanding that “there can be no going back” means “oh, we finally realized America is led by an insane clown who hates NATO, the guardrails are gone, and nobody in his party is willing to stop him from attacking any or all of us.”
Trump: “I had a very good telephone call with Mark Rutte, the Secretary General of NATO, concerning Greenland. I agreed to a meeting of the various parties in Davos. As I expressed to everyone, very plainly, Greenland is imperative for National and World Security. There can be no going back”

Notice this “performative submission to patriarchy” always results in the MAGA women looking much uglier.

Can’t help but think if the men of MAGA were actually sexually interested in women, they would not desire their partners to disfigure themselves into hideous caricatures of drag queens.
They've changed their faces to please the patriarchy. It's not about what types of women those patriarchal men personally prefer; it's about showing those men that they are willing to submit. And it's a specific kind of look. It shows their willingness to be controlled.
