If you start your video essay with a superlative about your subject matter, I have just stopped your video essay. I don't care if you are shaking up the consensus understanding in your subject and opening exciting new avenues of analysis and critique, I'm going to assume you barely passed English.

In retrospect, it should have been obvious that worst but most seductive aspects of the early mass internet—USENET, IRC, Listservs, finger/.plan—would take over everything else, and also become much, much worse than anyone could have imagined as they expanded in scale.
