A little bit of bonus Cold War history behind the Reichstag. Part of the Gdansk Lenin Shipyard wall where the Solidarność movement started to gain traction in 1980. August protests that year were the beginning of the end for Poland‘s communist regime.

#OTD 25/10/1952 #RememberRCN -Ferdinand Demara, aka Surgeon Lieutenant Joseph Cyr, RCN, is placed in custody aboard HMCS CAYUGA off Korea. Demera had enrolled in the RCN with the stolen credentials of the real Dr Cyr. The Movie "The Great Impostor" loosely depicts this story.
Good reminder that RAF have too few P8s, RN fleet of SSNs is largely inactive, Type 23s all well past design life, and all round we have neglected ASW

New: a $60 mod to Meta's Ray-Ban glasses disables the privacy LED light. This is supposed to light when people are filming with the glasses. We bought the mod, verified it works. Now you can never be sure whether someone wearing Meta Ray-Bans is filming you or not

When Obelix builds a pub:
Within the Oxenham Arms in the village of South Zeal, Devon is
The ‘Roman Pillar' propping up the roof in the restaurant at the rear of the pub.
In the next room is an enormous Menhir built into the fabric of the wall too. One pub - two standing stones.
This deportation lunacy would include people like American widow of friend who served 40 yrs RN including Falklands. Not the country he fought for.🤬

Next time your mate is deep in a reverie about the immutable, exceptional nature of English identity, you might want to show them this picture and remind them that 300 years ago this would have been enough to send the entire kingdom into a revolutionary, effigy burning, chapel torching frenzy

Fascinating world of ancient #glass!
This marvellous blue #Roman glass vessel with a white base and white handles dates back to the 3rd/4th century AD. It was found in an early medieval burial from the 6th century AD. in Hüfingen - already an antique piece at the time.

Nice. Greenland goes with French Eutelsat rather than Starlink for its satellite-based internet connectivity.

(“ditches Starlink” seems a bit exaggerated as apparently they build on an existing Eutelsat coop)

This seems accurate. It's absurd to think killing Maduro amounts to a serious way of tackling narcotics in the region & any serious analyst in the US intel community knows this. What's more important is that the Asia-first crowd are being out-manoeuvred and sidelined on this.
A regime change effort cloaked in the guise of counter-narcotics and counter-terrorism.
