I've already said more than I ought to but I believe apostasy to be nonsense. Your faith is either enough to hold people on its own or it's not.

Now I'm definitely aware of the dangers posed by extremism under cover of evangelism but in a democracy you have to handle that with deft.

I have similar views as it relates to salafists so I'm very equal opportunity on evangelism of the who. Indonesia famously has a syncretic Islam that has been very tolerant. You'd never catch the Saudis allowing an animal on their national airline named for a Hindu deity.

I have more complicated views on just how evangelism operates in East Asia but I also think if people are allowed to believe just about anything I'm not going to spend my time being mad about it. I'm not going to give them money.

NRMs however, those I distrust heavily.

The PRC is a special place (derogatory).

Its opposition is far less about socialist atheism and about control and nonstate actors having any influence. Uyghurs getting tarred as terrorists for being mostly culturally Muslim but not esp devout, like pre 92 Bosnians. No way that could backfire.

I don't think it's a good idea but it's the nature of evangelism, which is a part of both Christianity and Islam and has been since their founding.

It is but it's also wrong to side with fanatics who are on the wrong side of things. KSA has been sponsoring conversion missions in the West and Southeast Asia for decades.

Bog standard Catholic Filipinos have been put to death in KSA just for attending house churches.
