On some level i feel like we have to go back, not all the way mind you but just a bit, at least with cars anyway. Get rid of the expectation for something that is, under the surface, a complex machine that requires regular, timely maintenance should be an appliance that "just works"
one thing i don't think people appreciate about military technology of the WW2 era is that there was a vastly lower expectation of what counted as "reliable"

Funny thought: Steel Battalion Heavy Armor was a terrible game, but there's a narrative that could've worked there as a mid-game upgrade that also connects it to the original, good games. After your first encounter with the big Chinese Super-VT you find a lab that managed to do the impossible

This is the kind of game The Forever Winter could be but they keep making decisions that are just....INCREDIBLY annoying
I think there is a very real void in the market for a PvE only (single player/co-op) extraction shooter that leans into the ephemeral nature of gear and makes the gear ceiling much lower but has persistent upkeep so players expect to expend it and can die more often
There's a very vocal subset of ARC Raiders (and before that DMZ) players who despise PvP with every fiber of their being which has made me come to the conclusion that most people like the idea of an extraction shooter more than they like an extraction shooter
