Me in my echo chamber
Kind of tempted to start a blog. I don't think anyone really reads blogs much anymore, and I don't really believe my thoughts are terribly compelling or all that interesting, but I got stuff I want to write down, and short form posts here aren't really suited to it.

My last living musical hero is still my hero but unfortunately no longer living. RIP to the great, great Mr. Tom Lehrer.

Finished Clair Obscur Expedition 33 yesterday and it was a masterpiece. I keep seeing people talk about "good" and "bad" endings to the game, but I didn't feel like any were "good". The narrative is grey, and the emotions associated are complicated, and the possible endings fit that perfectly.

Occasionally I make a perfect cup of tea and it's bittersweet because I know the next one I make won't be as good.

Tea making is more art than science I think.

Gonna pre-order some Warhammer Old World Wood Elves.

My very first miniatures were a set of War Dancers when I was around 8 years old. I still have one of them, his poorly painted metallic purple hair slightly chipped, and his arm missing.

Basic summary:

Not everything is about you, and if you recognize it isn't, you don't HAVE to make it about you. You can just exist knowing you're good and chill and go about your day.

A lesson I think the internet could learn A LOT from.

I'm in a Bloodbowl 2 league with family and friends. It's the second year of the league and it's a lot of fun but it provides a really strong lesson - there are zero guarantees in life. Nothing is promised.

Did 14 miles at Kiltwalk for MDUK yesterday. My feet still hurt. Worth it, so much fun. Gonna start training so next year I can do 23 miles and not be utterly destroyed by it.

The deep fried Brie bites starter from my local hotel. Used to be my favourite thing on the menu back in 2013. Simple and delicious. It's been more than a decade and I still miss them. Every time they update their menu I dare to hope, but so far in vain.
Restaurant near my old flat did a gochujang salmon that was sensational. Restaurant still there, but no longer on the menu. An act of sheer folly.
I don't want to hear about your lost loves, tell me about the restaurant food that haunts you because you'll never be able to taste it again

One time my partner asked me who my favourite FFXIV character was. At the time I was a wee baby sprout in Uldah. As a joke I said Papashan.

I have fully embraced this as fact now. Papashan is my fave. I'm replaying on an alt, and at the bit he briefly appears in EW, and I'm like YASS PAPASHAN!

Sick of seeing the idea that wee bams didn't start fires back in our day. I'm not that old, and I'm seeing this from people my own age. There absolutely were plenty of vandals and fire starters in my generation, as there have been and will continue to be in every generation.

Secret Village of The Ninja from Suikoden II

And

A Father's Pride from FFXIV
Popular choices are going to be the Elder Scrolls, The Witcher, and such (and I agree) - but I have to know mutuals - what is a piece of video game music that just soothes you?

For me, one piece is Balamb Garden from Final Fantasy VIII. 🍃

Catching up on all the Star Trek I've missed over the last few years (it's quite a bit), just finished the last season of Lower Decks. Now on to Strange New Worlds!

So far my only complaint about Suikoden 1 remaster is that the inventory system is objectively worse than it was in the OG

There are a few small things I don't like that are simple preferences, based on nostalgia & aren't a reflection on the quality of the remaster at all

Overall it's excellent.

So this wasn't my biggest want from the Suikoden remasters but I just found out that THEY KEPT THE ELEPHANT DRAGON SOUND.

I'm hyped.

There's a red alert danger to life storm where I live, and my neighbour keeps going outside to fix the tarp he has over his garden bench. Like every time it starts being taken off by the wind he's back out there putting it back on.

My kid got really into Undertale recently. Which is great, it's awesome when you can talk about shared interests with your kids..

...But now I feel so old! He was 3 when Undertale was released and I remember wondering if he'd get into it when he's older... Turns out "when he's older" is now.
