1. Black holes are not 'evil vacuum cleaners' but play an important role in the ecosystem of the universe:

I agree, having written a novella depicting that called "The Cryptomancers at the Heart of the Galaxy"

One more time: if you want to find out if AIs by way of LLMs are going to take over writing poetry (or fiction), check out this piece which contains a two question poll annex quiz:

True.

I think it's because when I read my own stuff, I see what I think should be there, instead of what actually is.

Both the idea that LLMs are conscious & the simulation hypothesis (we are living in a simulation) have been debunked.

As I'm not the original debunker—wish I was that smart—I explain them on my substack: jetse.substack.com/p/the-simula...

Next victim: the hard problem of consciousness. Stay tuned!

Interestingly (@tobyord.bsky.social via @harsimony.bsky.social), it shows the AI point of diminishing returns:

www.tobyord.com/writing/hour...

TL;DR (IIUC): the hourly cost for human-equivalent tasks—nearing parity now—might become exponentially higher for AI.

Don't fire human programmers yet!
Are the Costs of AI Agents Also Rising Exponentially? — Toby Ord
There is an extremely important question about the near-future of AI that almost no-one is asking. We’ve all seen the graphs from METR showing that the length of tasks AI agents can perform has been...

Depends. I ignore a finished WiP several months to return with a (relatively) fresh mind. Then I try to fix things to the best of my ability.

Then I make a print version, have the PoD sent to me, and find—apart from the misprints—other mistakes.

Rinse & repeat. Yet at some point you must publish.

Or: How soon we forget.

In my day job, I was surprised at how quickly people started to go on cruise vessels (which are basically an epidemic starting point waiting to happen) again.

Many people want to get back to what they've been doing before, instead of thinking what went wrong.

2. To see if Google’s Gemini is better than the competition, you could try to figure out which was Gemini’s response in my quiz:

Spotify is evil. Always was, Always will be.
In April 2024, Spotify implemented a new scheme: songs with less than 1k streams per year would no longer receive royalties.

The data for 2025 was just released via Luminate, and 88% of songs have been demonetized.

Read it again: 88% of songs on Spotify have been demonetized.

To update the gmail app on my iPhone required more than 750 MB (almost a GigaByte).

How much of it is AI spying?

Where's software with no cruft?

It's the dawning of the age of AI sloppiness(*), where quality is overwhelmed by an avalanche of unfiltered quantity.
