I would not exist today if not for the British imposed famine in Ireland which brought waves of Irish to American shores, many of which who fought and died to preserve the Union during the civil war.
Remember: Almost all of us are the descendants of immigrants who fled persecution, or were brought to America under duress, or sought better lives for themselves and their descendants.
