Ugh, very familiar with these. We get them for our fish scicomm podcast once a month or so.

We hope you enjoy it! It's purely a hobby but we have learned a lot about fish and podcasting in the last couple years!

leopard among the forest

(Swim On 7, 2021) #art #sciart 🎨🦑🦈
Illustration of a kelp forest in a teal ocean, rays of golden sunlight streaming in from above. Fish are swimming about, and near the bottom of a prominent kelp strand, a partially obscured leopard shark leisurely patrols the underwater forest. The palette predominantly features warmer teals, red violet, and gold.

Detox Doodles!

This is a habit of drawing something every time I feel the urge to scroll unnecessarily. It helps stop the bad habit and start a new good habit of sketching daily!

This page is all about Mudskippers, sooo derpy!

#art #fish #mudskipper #sketch #DetoxDoodles #sciart #InkArt
Sketchbook page of 5 drawings of Mudskippers in blue pen. The top of the page has the text 7/26/25 and Mudskippers. The top left drawing is of a frowny fish. To the right is a fish leaping and a heart, with the word Leap! To the left is a fish in profile looking to the right with its mouth open. At the bottom left is a heart and a derpy fish with its mouth slightly open. At the bottom right is a fish in profile with its mouth open looking to the left.

Been feeling like I have (at least) one foot in art block and/or burnout so I tried to paint a fish with Poscas to turn my brain off a bit :")
Also gonna try using hashtags, please don't judge-

Paralabidochromis sauvagei from Lake Victoria. My fish are of the southern variety of this species, their ancestors originally come from Makobe Island. In the north of the lake, males are actually blue. 🐟 #fishkeeping #photography
A colorful cichlid in my aquarium. Plants are visible in the background. The fish is yellow with some reddish hues. It has a gray head and a black stripe running through its eye. Some faint lines are visible on its body.

I don’t know whether to feel good or bad about the degree to which this is, to me, a thing it seems completely normal to do?

Male sharks have 2 sexual organs called claspers. If the claspers are soft and bendy, the shark is immature. If the claspers are hard and rigid, he’s ready to reproduce! And unfortunately, as I scientist, I have had to be the one to decide if a male shark was mature or not. It’s… uncomfy😅😂

I got my @dftbarecords.bsky.social @hankgreen.bsky.social "We never left the water" shirt! I wore it to my aquaculture facility, where the #zebrafish all have jobs. They are helping us to learn all about developmental biology!
A woman in glasses with long brown hair standing in front of a zebrafish rack, which is a recirculating aquaculture system that can house thousands of small freshwater fish like zebra danios. She is wearing a blue shirt that features many fish dressed in human clothes and holding things implying they have occupations. The shirt says "we never left the water".

Fish that live in the open ocean all face the problem of water temperatures being cold, sometimes extremely so. This is an even bigger issue if you're a predator trying to chase down prey. So what's a cold-blooded fish to do? Let's talk about 1 solution for #FishOfTheWeek, gigantothermy

A whale shark swimming in the open ocean. It is a beautiful gray color with a unique pattern of white stripes and dots. The patterns are as unique as human fingerprints!
